How to Study - setting up

❏ Remind yourself of rules, concepts, and techniques.
❏ Use the Learning Modules if you have to
❏ For particularly tricky Concepts or questions, review notes and Modules before each question
❏ When you’re ready to start, simulate taking the actual GMAT as much as possible:
❏ Either work directly from ebook on your computer, prop up the book in front of you as if you’re
looking at a computer screen, or use the GMATClub links.
❏ If you have one, use a Laminated GMAT Notebook with a water soluble pen
❏ Otherwise, use scratch paper with a non-erasable pen for your work

❏ Organize your work area before starting each type of question
❏ Quant: draw lines on your book/paper to divide into rectangular boxes, one for each question
❏ Verbal: write the letters A to E in column form as they appear in the questions and cross out
each as you eliminate answer choices
❏ IR: Since some questions have multiple parts, allow yourself one half to one full page for each
question

How to Study - while you study
❏ Time yourself for every question:
❏ Quant both Problem Solving (PS) and Data Sufficiency (DS): 2 minutes
❏ Sentence Correction (SC): 1½ minutes (but one minute is ideal)
❏ Critical Reasoning (CR): 2 minutes
❏ Reading Comprehension (RC): Passages - 3 - 4 minutes to read
Questions - 1 - 1 minute 15 seconds
❏ If you run out of time, make an educated guess and stop the clock.
❏ Record this in your error log
❏ Continue working on the question untimed until you reach an answer
❏ Compare this answer and your educated guess with the correct answer

How to Study - followup
❏ Spend twice the time on reviewing a question as you spent on answering it:
❏ It’s not enough that you know why the correct answer is correct.
❏ You also need to go through the wrong answers and be able to explain why each is
wrong. This is called wrong-answer analysis. This technique will allow you to internalize what
a typical wrong answer looks like and make you a master problem solver of GMAT questions.
❏ Do this especially on the concepts we’ve identified as a weakness
❏ Consider whether the method you chose was the correct or most efficient method.
Is there a faster way to the answer?
❏ Also think about whether the question could have been answered using a backup technique
involving some clever logic to eliminate some or all of the wrong answers.
