[Pass the SALT 2020] Understand password policy in OpenLDAP and discover tool...Worteks
We introduce the password policy standard (IETF Behera draft) and its implementation in OpenLDAP. We then present LDAP Tool Box Service Desk, a simple web application do display user account status and providing functions to check and reset password, lock/unlock account.
Auth2 and OpenID Connect support in LemonLDAP::NG, OW2online, June 2020OW2
Since the 2.0 release of LemonLDAP::NG, we worked a lot on OAuth2 and OpenID Connect and the latest versions of the software can now be used to authenticate mobile applications, protect API and Webservices. For example, LemonLDAP::NG supports refresh tokens, for online and offline mode, and some OAuth2 specific endpoints like the introspection endpoint. In this presentation you will discover these new features and learn how to use them for your applications. Presentation by Clément Oudot, Worteks.
The Alkacon OCEE modules are often used in large professional OpenCms installations. The decision to use OCEE is usually made to meet one single requirement of the customer, such as LDAP connectivity or cluster support. Since OCEE is sold in a package, an installation could also benefit from using other features of the OCEE modules – but it may be unclear what other features are available in general.
In this session explain the benefits and of the different OCEE modules and their functionalities for every OpenCms installation are explained, e.g. making full use of the OCEE Accelerator. It is also shown certain special features of the OCEE LDAP, Cluster and Replication modules that are readily available but often remain unused. Based on experience in large OCEE installations, OCEE configuration tips and tweaks are providesd that improve performance and reliability.

Cloud-Native: A New Ecosystem for Putting Containers into ProductionGordon Haff
Updated version for CloudExpo 2019
The standardization of container runtimes and images has sparked the creation of an almost overwhelming number of new open source projects that build on and otherwise work with these specifications.
Of course, there's Kubernetes, which orchestrates and manages collections of containers. It was one of the first and best-known examples of projects that make containers truly useful for production use. However, more recently, the container ecosystem has truly exploded. A service mesh like Istio addresses many of the challenges faced by developers and operators as monolithic applications transition towards a distributed microservice architecture. A tracing tool like Jaeger analyzes what's happening as a transaction moves through a distributed system. Monitoring software like Prometheus captures time-series events for real-time alerting and other uses. Grafeas and Kritis provide security policy attestation and enforcement. And there are many more.
In short, there's an entire new cloud-native ecosystem growing up around containers. Come to this talk by Red Hat technology evangelist Gordon Haff and learn all about it.
Vertical thinking for a simple architecture!
Micro Services are a new way of architectural thinking in web platforms. The key idea is strongly aligned on the unix philosophy: Create small services which are only responsible for one thing and make them work together. With this in mind, you get simple applications, which can be developed, deployed and scaled independent from each other.
The key challenge in using micro services is to decompose applications vertically, by their functional domains. Only with this, you are able to reduce dependencies and create simple applications.
On a technical side, micro services are backed by a wide support in different programming languages and open source frameworks. Especially the state of the art deployment mechanisms make this approach possible at all.

OSDC 2018 | Highly Available Cloud Foundry on Kubernetes by Cornelius SchumacherNETWAYS
This presentation will show how Cloud Foundry, the popular Platform as a Service framework, is deployed and configured to run in a highly available fashion on Kubernetes. It will show how to avoid single points of failures using Kubernetes features like stateful sets, readiness and liveness probes, etc. This includes how high availability extends to applications deployed by the end users of Cloud Foundry so they don’t have to worry about downtime. The presentation will include a demo of a disruptive agent simulating failures across the Kubernetes nodes and containers, while user applications are still alive and healthy. This presentation shows a real-life production use case for Kubernetes. This can be used as an example and to learn about the high-availability related features of Kubernetes. It also presents how the Kubernetes stack can be extended with Cloud Foundry to also cover the use case of Platform as a Service.

The DocdokuPLM is an open-source platform allowing its users to manage their product's lifecycle, from design to maintenance. The main application is built upon RequireJS and BackboneJS librairies for the front-end, and JEE for back-end. The GUI is quite complete, and may won't fit for all users involved in the process. This is especially the case for CAD designers who just need to commit their changes without having such a rich graphic interface. To answer this need, we developped a desktop application, interfacing our server with the CAD designer's file system : the DPLM.
First, we developped a command line interface, which is very lightweight and really great for advanced users. However providing a GUI which could interface with the CLI and allow the user to manage multiple files upload at once was more than needed.
Providing a consistent user experience across different platforms has been one of our challenges in the context of our application. The choice of a web framework was then a natural choice. But how could we get it run within a desktop application ? Node-Webkit brought us the ability to interact directly with the user's file system and embed the app in a webview, letting us the choice to use any web framework we wanted to use.

Providing Globus Services to Users of JASMIN for Environmental Data AnalysisGlobus
JASMIN is the UK’s high-performance data analysis platform for environmental science, operated by STFC on behalf of the UK Natural Environment Research Council (NERC). In addition to its role in hosting the CEDA Archive (NERC’s long-term repository for climate, atmospheric science & Earth observation data in the UK), JASMIN provides a collaborative platform to a community of around 2,000 scientists in the UK and beyond, providing nearly 400 environmental science projects with working space, compute resources and tools to facilitate their work. High-performance data transfer into and out of JASMIN has always been a key feature, with many scientists bringing model outputs from supercomputers elsewhere in the UK, to analyse against observational or other model data in the CEDA Archive. A growing number of JASMIN users are now realising the benefits of using the Globus service to provide reliable and efficient data movement and other tasks in this and other contexts. Further use cases involve long-distance (intercontinental) transfers to and from JASMIN, and collecting results from a mobile atmospheric radar system, pushing data to JASMIN via a lightweight Globus deployment. We provide details of how Globus fits into our current infrastructure, our experience of the recent migration to GCSv5.4, and of our interest in developing use of the wider ecosystem of Globus services for the benefit of our user community.

In software engineering, the right architecture is essential for robust, scalable platforms. Wix has undergone a pivotal shift from event sourcing to a CRUD-based model for its microservices. This talk will chart the course of this pivotal journey.
Event sourcing, which records state changes as immutable events, provided robust auditing and "time travel" debugging for Wix Stores' microservices. Despite its benefits, the complexity it introduced in state management slowed development. Wix responded by adopting a simpler, unified CRUD model. This talk will explore the challenges of event sourcing and the advantages of Wix's new "CRUD on steroids" approach, which streamlines API integration and domain event management while preserving data integrity and system resilience.
Participants will gain valuable insights into Wix's strategies for ensuring atomicity in database updates and event production, as well as caching, materialization, and performance optimization techniques within a distributed system.
Join us to discover how Wix has mastered the art of balancing simplicity and extensibility, and learn how the re-adoption of the modest CRUD has turbocharged their development velocity, resilience, and scalability in a high-growth environment.

They don't integrate easily each others, even if they respect
standard protocols
●
The FusionIAM initiative has choosen some of these products
and propose to ship them as a unified platform

Choosing the Cloud
●
Benefits:

No installation or software updates
●
No infrastructure
●
Availability and scalability
●
Drawbacks:
●
Data hosted by another company
●
Integration with internal information system is more difficult
●
Reversibility not always easy (read the contract)
16. 16
Infrastructure stack
●
Images build: Podman or Docker
●
Software deployment and initial configuration: Ansible
●
Images run: Podman or Openshift
●
Images registry: OW2 Gitlab registry or Openshift registry
●
Operating system: CentOS

Configuration settings passed as environement variables
17. 17
Containers
●
Running software in containers:
●
Every data written in the container is lost when the container
restarts, data should only be written in persistent storages
●
Routes need to be defined to allow communication to containers
and between containers
●
All required files should be present in container image, and could
only be modified when container starts
●
It should be possible to run several containers at the same time,
for scalability
18. 18
Data Model
●
LDAP directory splitted in
two main branches:
●
Customer: data than can be
managed directlry by the
customer (users, groups)
●
Admin: data dedicated to
service hoster (technical and
service accounts, security
groups)
