2. Otmar Gutmann
Otmar Gutmann is German television producer, animator and
director. He was born on the 24th April 1937 and died October
13th,1993. He is most memorably known for his animated
creation, Pingu. Otmar founded the Pygos group in 1986.
3. Pingu!
• Pingu is a Bafta Award-Winning stop motion clay mated
children’s television series which was produced by The Pygos
group and Track film studio. The series was originally made for
Swiss television. The series shows a family of penguins living in
the North Pole who can morph. The series Centre’s on families
of penguins living in Antarctica that live and work on igloos.
Pingu frequently goes on adventures with his sister pinga and
his best friend Robby the seal.

4. The History of Pingu!
• The original series ran from 28 May 1986-3 march 2006 and
ran for six seasons. Seasons 1-4 were produced by Pygos
group and seasons 5-6 were made by British companies HiT
entertainment and hot animation. The show ran for a total of
157 episodes with each episode lasting for five minutes. Pingu
was distributed by Sf DRS between 1986-2000 and by bbc 2
from 2003 – 2006. Series 1-4 appeared 4:3 full screens and 5-6
ran in wide screen. Despite finishing in 2006 pingu still has a
cult following and occasionally reruns on cbeebies on bbc.
• One of its reason for it success is that it contains no real
spoken language and nearly all dialogue is invented penguin
language, with occasional words being said in Swedish or
English. This allows people of all linguistic back grounds to
follow the story.
