ThebandwedecidedonisTheCourteeners.TheyareanEnglishindierockbandformedinMiddletonin2006that
consistsof LiamFray(guitar/vocals),MichaelCampbell(drums/backingvocals),Daniel"Conan"Moores(guitar)and
MarkCuppello(bass);thelatterwasreplacedby theband'sproducerJoeCrossin2015.Theyhavereleasedfourstudio
albums:St.Jude(2008),Falcon(2010),Anna(2013)andConcreteLove(2014)aswellasseveralEPsandoneDVDalbum.
Thebandissettoreleasetheir5thalbum,MappingtheRendezvous,on28 October2016.

Thealbumthatwewanttocreatewouldbeacompilation oftheband’smostpopularsongs,
soitwouldbea‘bestof’album.Thenameofthealbumwillbe‘LostCauses-TheBestofThe
Courteeners’;wedecidedonthisnameasitlinkstotheband’sfirststudioalbum‘StJude’.
StJudewasthepatronsaintofdesperatecasesandlostcauses,hencewhywechosethename
lostcauses.

3. THESONG
Thetrackthatwewanttouseforourmusic videois‘notnineteenforever’.Wechose thissongasit
hasagood storylineandlyricsthatwecouldeasilycreateanarrativefor.Itisanupbeatsongwith a
happytuneanditalsohasagood rhythm which will lend itselfwell toastrong editingpacetocreate
asuccessfulmusic video.
● Goodstoryline -we wantedasongthatwould allowustocreateaclearstorylineasthe
audienceresearch revealedthatpeople wouldliketoseeanarrativein avideo.
● Goodrhythm -agood rhythm wasanessentialfeatureofthe songthatwe chose becauseit
ensuresthatwecanhaveagood paceforediting andthisallows continuitybetween the
paceofeditingandthepaceofthesong.
● Happyupbeattune-wedidn’t wanttopick asongthatwasdepressingastheslowpace
wouldn’tbeusefulforediting.Thechoice wasbaseduponwhatwe thought anaudience
would prefertohearandanupbeatsongismore likelytoinfluencethelistener’smood.
THEVIDEO
Ourinitialideasforthevideoincludedhavingamixtureofnarrativeandliveperformance
throughout. Thenarrativewould bebasedononeleadcharacterwho isayoungmale,clearly
strugglingwith lifeasmanyyoungteenswould beabletorelatewith this.Hisproblems would
includethestressofhisevery-daylifeanditslackofstructure.Wediscussedthepossibility ofusing
thetheme ofdrugabuseinthevideotoshow theextentofhisproblems andhow heescapesthem. This
relatestothelyricsasthesongreads‘you’renotnineteenforever’ -thisshows thattheprotagonist
isyoungandhavingagood time with hisfriends,however, youthdoesn’t lastandduringthevideo
hewill come toarealisation thathe needsto sortouthislife.Thenarrativefollows him onthis
journeyofrealisationandthe endof thevideoshows him reconsidering hisdecisions andsorting
hislifeout.
