This document discusses the optimization of automatic voltage regulators (AVR) using genetic algorithms (GA), emphasizing their effectiveness in minimizing transient variations in power systems. It compares the performance of GA with other traditional control methods, specifically focusing on Integral Absolute Error (IAE) and Integral Time Absolute Error (ITAE) criteria, and concludes that while ITAE outperforms IAE in overshoot, IAE is superior in minimizing settling time. Simulations conducted using MATLAB demonstrate the robustness of GA in determining optimal PID controller parameters for AVR systems.
