want to contribute to it.
OER is collaborative and engages professionals
from all academic and professional fields.
OER is a great place to start to find material that
you then can adapt and make useful for your
purpose. Material spans from a single image to
an entire course series or textbook.
OER provides a way to share widely without
releasing ownership.
5. Challenges
of
OER
There is a lot of information out there to wade though. So
the enormity of it all can be overwhelming and keep
someone from even knowing where to start.
Developing a system to search for what you would like
can be difficult and you sometimes find yourself settling
for what will do instead of what you need.
The learning curve is wrought with obstacles. There are
some really good OER search engines out there but not
every source caters to the topic you may be searching for
or in the format you desire. So knowing where to go for
what is a really important aspect to conquer.
Learning how to define, phrase or word your search is
imperative to narrow down the results and generate the
right pool to search through.
It can be trying to find relevant and recent material in
certain areas. Content is not always kept current.
