 OER reduces the cost of
education so students can take
more classes and/or have less
stress.
 OER gives students many
supplemental resources for
learning.
(if they only aware of it!)
 Choices, choices, choices for
pursuing interests and life-long
learning.

Why Do Faculty Want OER?
 Ability to start classes with everyone having his or her textbook!
 Ability to edit or change course material to be culturally sensitive.
 Ability to find and use fun and creative lessons and courses.
 Ability to not feel as if the entire book needs to be covered.

OER—Why Not?
 Material may or may not be accurate and up-to-date.
 Book publishers make their products very attractive for reducing
faculty work-time—supplemental tests and activities.
 Many people want to be paid for their creativity and work.
 WIIFM (What’s In It For Me?)
 Some people unwilling to change.
 Publishers are strong politically and won’t want to lose business.
OER—Why Not?
Is OER for Me?
 Yes, yes, and yes!
 Many bountiful choices and rich resources.
 As a learner and teacher, OER is the future of education!
