Blockchain and cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin enable new forms of digital money and financial contracts. Bitcoin introduced a trustless digital currency using cryptography to secure a distributed public ledger called the blockchain. Miners on the Bitcoin network process transactions and add them to blocks which get added to the immutable blockchain roughly every 10 minutes. Over time, the blockchain has grown large as a record of all transactions, posing scalability challenges. New applications like smart contracts and alternative currencies like Namecoin build on this innovation to enable decentralized applications and services.

Pysense: wireless sensor computing in Python?

PySense aims at bringing wireless sensor (and "internet of things") macroprogramming to the audience of Python programmers. WSN macroprogramming is an emerging approach where the network is seen as a whole and the programmer focuses only on the application logic. The PySense runtime environment partitions the code and transmits code snippets to the right nodes finding a balance between energy consumption and computing performances.

In queste slide ripercorriamo rapidamente la storia e le caratteristiche di questa tecnologia emergente.

Nel corso di quest’articolo vedremo come sia possibile sfruttare il Service Builder (Liferay Inc., 2014) per creare dei servizi da esporre all’esterno non direttamente collegati all’entità gestiste dallo specifico plugin. Quello che vogliamo ottenere è quindi un servizio personalizzato chiamato Custom Users Service disponibile pubblicamente e che sfrutti i servizi core del portale. In questo particolare scenario vogliamo fare in modo che il servizio Custom Users Service, esponga un metodo che ritorni al consumer del servizio, la lista di utenti taggati con un determinato tag (Liferay Inc., 2014).

This document summarizes and compares three apps for visualizing geo-tagged images: Panoramio, Flickr Maps, and Fractal View. It finds that geo-tagged images are growing exponentially but summarizing large collections remains a challenge. An experiment with 10 testers found that Panoramio involved continuous gaze shifting between maps and thumbnails while Flickr required selecting clusters and losing geographical details. Fractal View allowed selecting bounding boxes while maintaining geographical constraints and image order. The document concludes that mobile devices are important for testing new interaction designs for geo-tagged image visualization and summarization.

NAT Traversal

This document discusses various techniques for allowing peer-to-peer communication between hosts located behind Network Address Translation (NAT) devices, including NAT traversal using UDP hole punching, TCP hole punching, relaying, connection reversal, and the TURN protocol. It also covers proxy protocols like SOCKS that can be used to traverse NATs, as well as the UPnP standard for automatic port forwarding configuration.
