This document summarizes evidence and recommendations regarding COVID-19 vaccination in pregnant and lactating women. It finds that while pregnant women were not included in initial clinical trials, available data has not found any adverse maternal or fetal effects from vaccination. It recommends COVID-19 vaccination for pregnant women, as COVID-19 infection poses greater risks in pregnancy such as admission to the ICU, longer hospital stays, premature birth, and cesarean delivery. Vaccination during lactation is also recommended as antibody levels transferred to infants are higher than following natural COVID-19 infection.
