Editor's Notes

  • #3 We’ve made the shift from newspapers to job boards, and we’re entering into the social recruiting era. But the question I’ve got is - NEXT SLIDE
  • #4 By a show of hands, how many of you think recruiting is easier today than 5 or 10 years ago? How many of you think it’s harder? NEXT SLIDE
  • #5 Throughout the next 45 minutes, I will ask you to consider a few of the reasons why I believe recruiting isn’t easier today than it was in previous years. One of the takeaways from my presentation today is about “job pollution”. Job pollution is an output of everything that’s taking place today on the web with regards to online job advertisements and postings. NEXT SLIDE
  • #6 What’s the result of the pollution? We’re posting the same jobs and duplicating content all over the web. Last month CLC Recruiting , formerly the Recruiting Roundtable (CEB) released results from a member survey. These may or may nor surprise you based on everything you’ve heard the past 6 months in the recruiting space… NEXT SLIDE
  • #7 Hopefully I’ve peaked your interest enough to stay and listen. 7 people from AMP have to stay. So you know what you can expect – and what you’ll hear about: NEXT SLIDE
  • #8 Let’s take a look at how online recruiting has evolved over nearly 2 decades. The first job board launched 18 years ago. CHANGE SLIDE
  • #9 Do these look familiar? Anyone remember Monster’s original mascot - “Jabba The Hunt”
  • #10 In 18 years, the base functionality of job boards has not changed that much. (Post jobs, apply online, Resume database). Sure, things have evolved significantly, but the premise of what the boards were built on remains the same. But today isn’t just about job boards – and I’ll spend a majority of my time talking about the past 5 years – to the right of the red line. Aside from web 2.0 technology – and engaging in social media for recruiting, one of the biggest changes came with the introduction of aggregators, starting with Indeed in 2004.
  • #11 There are quite a few aggregators out there – from indeed and simplyhired to oodle and careerjet. More and more aggregators are launching – and job boards are getting into the aggregator business as well – on their own.
  • #12 Average over 1 million jobs per week – how many are duplicate?
  • #13 Indeed is now saying 17 million
  • #15 They, like job boards, know how candidates search for jobs and the strings they use.
  • #38 And I said, I don't care if they lay me off either, because I told, I told Bill that if they move my desk one more time, then, then I'm, I'm quitting, I'm going to quit. And, and I told Don too, because they've moved my desk four times already this year, and I used to be over by the window, and I could see the squirrels, and they were married, but then, they switched from the Swingline to the Boston stapler, but I kept my Swingline stapler because it didn't bind up as much, and I kept the staples for the Swingline stapler and it's not okay because if they take my stapler then I'll set the building on fire...
