This is Stephanie McNair, the coordinator for Phoenix College Library. Phoenix College is a two year college and is part of the 
Maricopa Community College District consisting of 10 colleges, and 2 career skill centers. Phoenix College is centrally located here in 
sunny Phoenix, AZ. Established in 1920 Phoenix College is the leader of the College system. Maricopa Community Colleges District 
(MCCD) is one of the nation’s largest community college systems. MCCD; is a single provider of higher education in Maricopa 
County. Phoenix College is a comprehensive community college dedicated to provide affordable, high quality and accessible 
education to a diverse community the college serves. 
The learning environment at Phoenix College provide students with a unique campus experience. The campus offers a nice unique 
mix of modern and traditional historic buildings that includes instructional classrooms, The Hannelly center, Phoenix College one-stop 
enrollment center, modern library, a performing arts theatre, culinary Café Oso, gymnasium, a state of the art nursing center, 
and a community dental clinic, as well as athletic fields and a fitness center. 
At Phoenix College, there is over 150 degree and certificate programs offered here. More than 30,000 students attend Phoenix 
College each year. At Phoenix College, we prepare our students for university transfers, career guidance and training. There is a 
diverse student body at Phoenix College, which speaks over 50 different languages . This represents over 100 different countries, and 
reflective of the multicultural central city community we serve. 
Welcome to Phoenix College Women’s Wellness Expo! 
Maricopa Community College District offers (staff, faculty and students) continued ways to help us improve – or maintain – our 
health. As a wise person once said, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” Maricopa Community College believes it’s 
the right thing to do. Healthcare is currently on the forefront of everyone’s mind and at MCCD, we offer multiple life and hea lthcare 
balance incentives. Today’s event is all about women’s wellness. In an effort to provide the community with increase health 
awareness through education and prevention, Women Wellness invites all employees, students, and the surrounding community to 
attend the Wellness, Life, and Balance Expo on beautiful Sophomore Square here on Phoenix College campus. 
Some of the exciting activities will include: 
 Mobile mammography 
 Free Healthy Food Samples 
 Free STD and HIV testing 
 Healthy Food Demonstrations and Tasting 
 Diabetes testing 
 Blood Pressure testing 
 Guidance on creating a Personal Health Record 
In addition to the Women’s Wellness program, there is the usual hat stop table, which donates all proceeds to a different student 
programs we have here at Phoenix College. Hats of all kinds are donated to the school, which is offered at $5.00 a hat.
Diabetes testing was done at this table. Checking your blood sugar involves pricking your finger to get a small drop of blood that is 
put on a test strip. The results were read after the strip was inserted into a machine called an electronic glucose meter. The results 
will tell you whether or not your blood sugar is in a healthy range. It was really painless – Yes I had mines tested while out there. All 
testing was done by our wonderful nursing students! Go PC…. 
In addition to assisting our students, we are also are preparing for our summer semester. Aside from the librarians, the lib rary 
assistance are here to make sure the library system runs smoothly. They ensure that the books are available and on the shelf ready 
for our students. Our book collection and video collection is second to none. We offer a wide variety of books, electronic databases, 
streaming media and e-books in the state of the art library center. Meet two of our librarians here to assist you. 
Carrie Thorpe, manning the reference desk, and waiting to serve our students, Carrie 
is one of our part time adjunct instructional librarian.
Michelle, our Faculty Librarian, who is also responsible for our electronic 
databases, and maintaining our website. Michelle, also conducts instructional classes here at the library. 
A library wouldn’t be a library without the classic circulation desk. Here books get checked out and returned. This is the spot to pay 
your fines, or plead your case…..You can reserve a study room, books and videos. At the circulation desk, we are always ready to 
serve our students with a smile. Livia, one of our library assistance is assisting our student check 
out a book. Livia job also entails cataloging our vast legal department law 
books. There is a lot involved in running a library. The library assistants are responsible for maintaining the variety of collections 
here at the library. Our staff consists of librarians, library assistants, student workers, a manager, coordinator, supervisor and 
department chair. In an effort to maintain our books, so that they last Karen, another library assistant, laminates the covers of the 
new books we receive this keeps the book covers looking brand new. 
The library wouldn’t run smoothly if we didn’t have the Department chair as our leader, Linda.
What emotional connection does each of your photos make? 
In each photo, the feeling I get from each of the photos is a feeling of contentment of a job well done. The employees truly enjoy 
being in their surroundings, and what they contribute. 
What is the meaning of happiness to you in each of the photos? 
The employees of Phoenix College takes great pride and satisfaction in serving the students of our college. We enjoy our job s. In 
each of the pictures, everyone is smiling. 
What emotions besides happiness are evoked? 
A positive attitude, the desire to please and a genuine desire to take care of our student’s needs. Everyone at the library, has 
enjoyed a tenure of over 10 years, and has no desire to leave. It truly is a please in assisting someone. 
What importance is each of the emotion to your business? 
Students need to feel that you genuine want to assist them. It is so important that the staff, greet each student in a pleas ant way, 
and being willing to assist them. No one would want to come to a library where the staff and faculty was rude or unwilling to assist 
them. Being helpful, friendly and positive will give our students a positive experience and hopefully this would be conduciv e to a 
positive learning environment. 
What kinds of positive PR would be generated by your company using these photos for promotion? 
Showing these photos, would give you a feeling of a great place to learn. The positive Wellness events which are also available to 
the community, would be a place to learn more about taking care of your health. Everyone in the photos are smiling and seems to 
enjoy working at Phoenix College. Within the photos, everyone seems projects a positive attitude, and a willingness to help. My 
photos would be perfect for any PC campaign.
