This document discusses green marketing and sustainable marketing. Green marketing aims to satisfy human needs and wants with minimal environmental impact. Sustainable marketing creates value for customers and companies while preserving natural and human capital. Companies that develop green products can access new markets and enjoy competitive advantages over those that do not. Some challenges to green products include higher costs and a lack of consumer awareness and willingness to pay more. The document provides examples of LG and HCL introducing eco-friendly electronics products in India.
Sustainability refers to meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. It is important for businesses as it can lead to savings, a stronger brand, and social and economic development. There are three key characteristics of sustainability: culture, commitment, and corporate social responsibility. The presentation discusses the role of future managers in sustainability and how both individuals and organizations can take steps towards sustainability such as saving resources, seeking renewable energy sources, implementing greener supply chains, and engaging in corporate social responsibility initiatives.

This case deals with a medium-sized engineering company's experiences with initiating CSR. It covers aspects like the rationale for CSR, its relationship with strategy, participation in CSR and speed breakers on the path to building a CSR culture in the company. After sustained growth over a few years, the top management has decided to look beyond profits and embarked on CSR. They allocated 2% of their PBT to their Trust to oversee CSR activities. They began the activities about one and a half years ago. The engagement began with much enthusiasm but with time, it started losing steam. The senior management has also been having a rethink about CSR strategy. Mr. Khonde, the HR head now has to suggest ways of mainstreaming CSR within the company.

Green Hydro is a hydrogen generator that is designed to save fuel in a car. It uses the principle of electrolysis to break up the water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen. These gases are piped into the car engine directly and enhance the combustion and thus enable the car to save fuel by 15%.
More importantly, we also want to rope in the general public to play a role in fighting global warming. Hence, for every Green Hydro that we install into our customer’s car, we shall plant a tree in his/her name. This makes him/her a proud donor of a tree.

The document discusses various options for reducing paper usage and their environmental impacts. It notes that most paper in India comes from waste paper or agricultural residues rather than wood. Even paper from wood often comes from managed plantation forests. It argues that paper usage has a relatively small environmental impact compared to other wood-intensive industries like furniture. Overall, it suggests focusing on reducing excess rather than blaming specific industries and promotes finding balanced, fact-based solutions.
Green HR aims to make human resource policies and practices more environmentally friendly in order to promote sustainability. Some ways companies are going green include providing incentives for employees to use public transportation, installing more efficient cooling systems, and transitioning to paperless processes. Educational institutions are also helping by offering online degree programs to reduce commuting, paper usage, and other environmental impacts. Overall, green HR initiatives help companies reduce costs while preserving resources through small changes that can collectively make a significant difference.

It also describes Mawlynnong village in India, which has been recognized as Asia's cleanest village due to community cleanliness efforts and innovative waste management practices. Additionally, the document outlines an eco-quiz competition held at a school in Mumbai to increase environmental awareness, and shares positive feedback from many of the 400 participants who found it informative.
This document provides an introduction to the Zediquette of Life, which discusses principles of sustainable living. It begins by explaining that Factor4 Foundation is a nonprofit focused on conservation research. It then discusses how Zediquette homes offer sustainable alternatives for materials, lighting, and more. The document emphasizes educating clients on green alternatives that can substitute for traditional choices in a cost-effective way. It presents the Zediquette philosophy as a vision ahead of its time and encourages readers to make sustainable living a way of life.

The document discusses ways for an individual to contribute to environmental sustainability. It suggests limiting personal carbon emissions through actions like choosing public transportation, biking, and reducing plastic use. It also emphasizes that the greatest impact can come from sharing green ideas and raising awareness among friends, family and the community. Finally, it proposes that social media can uniquely spread environmental messages and concepts to broad audiences by sharing sustainability methods on personal pages or establishing public accounts dedicated to environmental protection goals.
This document summarizes various international and Indian innovations. It describes Elif Bilgin's creation of bioplastic from banana peels which won her the 2013 Google Science Fair award. It also discusses Hoyoung Lee's pencil printer which uses pencil stubs to print on paper and Michikazu Hara's production of biodiesel using sugar as a catalyst. For Indian innovations, it mentions the village of Anandwan recycling plastic into cotton for mattresses and stabilizing mud bricks, and farmer Rajkumar's weeding tool called Halodu for use in mountainous fields.
Carbon trading allows companies and countries to buy and sell permits to emit carbon dioxide. It is a key part of international agreements to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Under a cap and trade system, a maximum amount of emissions (the cap) is set and permits equivalent to the cap amount are distributed which can then be traded. If an entity emits less than its allotment of permits it can sell the excess, while those that emit more must purchase additional permits. The goal is for entities to find the most cost-effective ways to reduce emissions over time as the cap amount is reduced. Buildings account for a large portion of emissions and architectural strategies like efficient HVAC, insulation, lighting, and renewable energy can significantly reduce a building
Monitor indicators of genetic diversity from space using Earth Observation dataSpatial Genetics
Genetic diversity within and among populations is essential for species persistence. While targets and indicators for genetic diversity are captured in the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, assessing genetic diversity across many species at national and regional scales remains challenging. Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) need accessible tools for reliable and efficient monitoring at relevant scales. Here, we describe how Earth Observation satellites (EO) make essential contributions to enable, accelerate, and improve genetic diversity monitoring and preservation. Specifically, we introduce a workflow integrating EO into existing genetic diversity monitoring strategies and present a set of examples where EO data is or can be integrated to improve assessment, monitoring, and conservation. We describe how available EO data can be integrated in innovative ways to support calculation of the genetic diversity indicators of the GBF monitoring framework and to inform management and monitoring decisions, especially in areas with limited research infrastructure or access. We also describe novel, integrative approaches to improve the indicators that can be implemented with the coming generation of EO data, and new capabilities that will provide unprecedented detail to characterize the changes to Earth’s surface and their implications for biodiversity, on a global scale.

The objective of this study is to provide a better knowledge of the flora of a classified forest relic and its capacity to preserve biodiversity. A forest inventory on 28 plots for woody species and 11 plots for herbaceous species was carried out in the Kou Classified Forest (KCF). The results show that the flora of the KCF is rich in 207 species belonging to 62 families and 165 genera. It includes 121 woody species and 85 herbaceous species. The most represented family is the Fabaceae 38 taxa. The diversity indices show that the woody and herbaceous flora is diverse, with respectively 13.61 and 7.85 for Margalef’s absolute species richness, 3.36 and 3.80 for Shannon-Weaver’s diversity index (H’), 0.93 and 0.97 for Simpson’s dominance (D’); 0.74 and 0.92 for Piélou’s equitability index (E). A total of 36 special-status species and 87.86% rare species (rarity index >80%) were recorded. Structural parameters such as basal area (15.73 ± 2.86 m2/ha), density (456 ± 51 ft/ha), average herbaceous cover (22% ± 4%) and Weibull’s form factor (C=0.7) show good ecological health and stability of the vegetation with a high regeneration potential of 1280 seedlings/ha and a regeneration rate of 236.37%. This ecosystem is of major importance in the conservation of phytodiversity in Burkina Faso.

A CSR Idea!

2. Whats it all about?
This is an idea on how to make cities green
again. (With Bangalore, as an example)
You need not wait for the company to
implement it. Can be done on a team level as
well.
3. Problem
An excerpt from Indian Institute of Science report on Bangalore
Urbanization
“For every seven persons there is one tree. Based on age, every
day one person exhales 540-900 grams of carbon dioxide and
one hectare of trees takes in close to 8 ton of carbon dioxide. So
based on that calculation every person needs 8 trees. So you
can imagine how pathetic the situation is.”
4. Problem (continued)...
With rapid urbanization and better employment opportunities,
there are people coming to cities which in turn leads to more
buildings at the cost of trees and an overall increase in city’s
temperature.
The green cover is slowly decreasing
More Concrete, More vehicles, More Heat!
Last Year summer was the hottest(39.2 C) in the history of
Bangalore and it looks like this year might not be any
different.
5. Solution:
If Bangalore becomes green again, it could impact the
weather conditions and the summers might not turn out to be
unbearable.
It’s a collective effort and an effort which might have
multiple layers of positive impact on the environment.
6. What companies can do:
One member-One Tree
For every new member that a company inducts, let there be a
tree planted.
This can be done every year by consolidating the total
number of people who have joined the company.
This could also be an induction activity!
Also, Bangalore can set an example to other cities.
7. What if the company is not keen on this
idea but I am?
Implement the idea on a team level.
Plant a tree every year for the number of members
in your team.
