2. POPULARIZATION OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
Science and technology have never played such
an essential and influential role in our lives. On the one hand, rapid
changes in science and technology and the introduction of new
technology in particular, have changed the development prospects of
many nations. Adaptations to new developments in science and
technology has become an important part of people’s life.
Governments in many countries directly
supports scientific and technical research. The Department of science
and technology is a department with in the ministry of science and
technology in India. It was established in may 1971 with the objective
of promoting Scientific and Technological activities in the country.
There are many organizations which helps to promotes the Science and
technology such as follows.
1. SASTHRA POSHINI
Sasthra poshini is a scheme planned by the Kerala State
Council for Science, Technology and Environment for
strengthening Science education among the high schools of the
state. This program plans strengthening of the High school science
laboratories of the state and an effective interaction among the
students and teachers. This is planned to be launched by the
council in association with the state Education Department during
the pilot program of two years, one model laboratory each in
Physics, Chemistry, and Biology will be set up in one school in
each educational district of the state. Teachers will be encouraged

3. to carry out innovative projects in science education for students
from different schools could come together and engage in
problem solving experiments and critical discussions.
2.SCIENCE OLYMPIAD
It is an American elementary, model and high school team
competition in which students complete in ‘events’ pertaining to
various scientific disciplines including earth science, biology,
chemistry, physics and engineering. There are three levels of
competition; regional, state and national. In addition some states
or private groups offer ‘inventional’ tournaments which serve as
practice for regional and state competitions advance to the state,
and then to the national level winners later receive several kinds
of awards from ribbon to trophies.

4. 3.KISHORE VAIGYANIK PROTASAHAN YOJANA
This is a Scholarship program funded by the Department of
Science and technology of the Government of India, aimed at encouraging
students to take up research careers in the areas of basic sciences, engineering
and medicine. It offers scholarship and contingency grants up to the Ph.D level to
selected students. Started in 1999, its administrated by the Indian institute of
science . The kishore vaigyanik yojana (KVYP) is an on-going National program of
fellowships in Basic sciences. Initiated and funded by the Department of science
and high motivated students for pursing basic science courses and research
career in science.
CONCLUSION
Various federal, state and local government entities supports technology
transfer from academic and non profit research institutions into private business.
So far the science and technology Department of the state has been
concentrating more on the issues , policies as well as other R and D efforts of the
state. The present proposal of establishing one model science laboratory in each
educational district is a piolet program planned by the council in consultation with
the state education department once the whole system and the net working are
established.
