It was also home to the counterculture movement in the 1960s-1970s and had racial tensions following Martin Luther King Jr.'s assassination. To get there from Loyola, take the Red Line to Clark/Division station and walk north on Clark Street then west on Goethe Street. Notable establishments in Old Town include Second City, Twin Anchor Bar & Grill, and the Chicago History Museum.

Bucktown dates back to the 1800s before Chicago was established. It was originally settled by Polish goat herders in the 1830s and later German immigrants in the 1840s. After the Chicago Fire of 1871, residents moved from the city to Bucktown. The population is currently around 13,000 with a median age of 32 and median household income of $80,974. There are several public transportation options to access Bucktown from Loyola including the CTA Red and Blue lines or various bus routes. Popular attractions in the area include music venues, art galleries, theaters, and the annual Wicker Park Fest.

The median household income of $65,393 is 11% lower than the city of Chicago overall.

It remains a middle-class area with many Ukrainian churches, shops, and the Ukrainian National Museum of History that celebrate the area's cultural history.

The Blk Grrrl Book Fair combines the worlds of feminism, film, visual arts and literary arts.
It is being planned with a collaboration of feminist and literary art groups.
It is inclusive of all genders, races, sexual orientations and generations. We have women curators who are in their 70s and women curators who are in their 20s. It is actively anti-racist, anti-colorist, anti-heterosexist, anti-misogynist, anti-ageist and anti-ableist .
The focus is feminism. Our belief is that the freedom of women, the most oppressed class, even within socially and economically oppressed groups, is the key to the
liberation of all people.
Women are underrepresented in the arts and publishing.
This event will correct that.
The Blk Grrrl Book Fair will be a demonstration of what inclusivity looks like.
