The elderly and those with disabilities had a difficult time coping with the earthquakes in Delhi. An 82-year-old partially deaf woman was unsure what was happening during the aftershock. Those with ailments like high blood pressure panicked during the tremors. Residents were worried about relatives near the Nepal border and were fearful of more large quakes. Images from Nepal of people trapped under debris left locals in Delhi scared when the aftershock struck.

Delhiites hadn't fully emerged from Saturday's shock when the ground
beneath their feet shook again on Sunday . Though it was a mild tremor, it
still felt ugly, especially because by then many had seen all those disturbing
reports, photographs and videos emerging from Nepal, detailing the
horrifying moments of the worst Himalayan tragedy of our time.
In particular, the old and infirm had a tougher time coping with the crisis.
“My 82-year-old mother is partially deaf and was watching television in the
other room when I called out to her She couldn't hear me while the tremor
continued...I was no sure if I should pick her up and rush or explain to her
what was happening. Thankfully , it stopped after a few seconds,“ said
Devendra Singh Dua (48), civi engineer, who lives in south Delhi's Alaknanda.

Those with disabilities or ailments also had a hard time. A Delhi lawyer,
Khagesh Jha, said he was in a meeting with some delegates on Saturday
when the first earthquake had struck and a delegate who suffers from
high blood pressure had panicked.
But on Sunday, he hadn't heard of any panic around him in Rohini.
However, Jha said he was worried about his family members in
Darbhanga, Bihar, who decided to sleep outdoors on Sunday. Another
Delhi resident who has family living near Nepal also looked worried. “I
didn't feel the aftershock but I am really worried about my relatives
who live near the Nepal border. They are now under the fear that an
other big earthquake may strike, which many scientists have been

Many said that photos and videos of people suffering in Nepal had been
weighing on their minds. When the temblor struck again, locals feared they
were going to meet the same fate as their Himalayan neighbours.“The
furniture started shaking around 12.40pm. The first thing I did was to rush
out of my house.Images of people trapped under debris in Nepal that I had
seen earlier were flashing before me and I was really scared,“ said Ananyo
Chowdhary , an advocate and Kalkaji resident.
Savita Kochar was in her kitchen when the earthquake struck. “I saw the
utensils shaking. After Saturday's quake, we all are very scared. However, on
Sunday , it got over soon,“ she said. Living on the 12th floor of a housing
society in Dwarka, Kochar said that when she read about people in Nepal
jumping from their balconies to escape, she was horrified.
