We ll never bring out just a me too product echoed in every department. The Gillette
Connection In 1967, the Braun brothers sold the company to an American
consumer products giant, Gillette. The Gillette Company, well known for its mass
produced, mass marketed products like razors, blades, and toiletries, hardly seemed
the company to become the parent of an elite class German firm. But Gillette was
no stranger to Europe, having marketed its goods on the continent and in Britain
since the turn of the twentieth century. It now saw the Braun acquisition as an
opportunity to cover the dry end of the shaving business, as well as to extend its
influence upward. Braun, for its part, had by 1967 grown to over 5,700 employees
and operated in 144 countries, but it was too small to compete with the
multinationals. Its management saw Gillette as a source of funding to enable them to
do so. Shortly afterwards, Braun moved its headquarters from Frankfurt to Kronberg,
a few kilometers away. For the first several years, Gillette left Braun s product
strategy intact while infusing some of its management expertise into the organization.
Very few people knew that this German company par excellence had an American
owner. Braun expanded its operations in other countries and began to extend its target
markets beyond the opinion leaders it had originally cultivated. Braun s Spanish
operations were a case in point.
Causes And Influences Of The Great Depression
The Great Depression is a period synonymous with excruciating poverty and
darkness worldwide. It can be said that an undeniable impact was felt upon all of
the world s nations although it can also be said that not all countries were affected
negatively. At the time, the majority of the powers of the world were for the most
part all very much entwined both politically and economically. Thus, the research
from this point on will cover not only what caused the depression, but how it
impacted each of the major powers of the Asia Pacific, those being; the United States,
China, Japan, and Russia (the former USSR). An in depth analysis of the Great
Depressionreveals that the United States suffered huge losses, while China, Japan,
and the Soviet Union were relatively unaffected.
Cause of Great Depression:
Let s begin by exploring the major causes and influences of the great depression.
The most common belief held by many is that the great depression was triggered by
the crash of the stock market in 1929, however while human nature requests that
things fall into simplistic narrative (Ie. stocks crash, therefore economy follows suit)
there is in reality no simple, concise answer to what caused the great depression. In
the case of the stock market crash, it is simply a case of correlation not equaling
causation. Just because the depression occurred soon after the stock market crash,
does not mean it caused it.
The roaring twenties was a fantastic time full of large scale

To avoid unintended implicature in dispreferred responses (invitation/declination)
we often add something to them. We can not respond to the invitation by saying no
as this could be considered as inappropriate and would create implicature. That is
why in the case of declining an invitation we have to add an apology, explanation or
an excuse why we refused the offer. There are also examples when we have one
adjacency pair embedded within another
Dispreferred or complex responses can also be:

Comparing Ludwig Beethoven And Beethoven s
Appassionata...
Both Ludwig Beethoven s Appassionata piano sonata and Franz Liszt s B minor
sonata are recognized as some of the best compositions of the nineteenth century. The
complexity and creativity of these pieces are astonishing. Considering both pieces are
sonatas they have some similar aspects, but they are also very different which can be
credited to the brilliant minds who composed them. These pieces are both
masterpieces of their time which is what has made them stand out amongst the many
songs composed during the nineteenth century. In this paper I will touch on the
significant attributes of these pieces and compare their similarities and differences.
The first piece I will introduce is Appassionata by Ludwig Van Beethoven.
Appassionata was composed during a time of many changes in both Beethoven s life
and the musical world around him. By 1800 Beethoven s hearing had deteriorated so
much that he was almost completely deaf. Although this was not something easy to
cope with, Beethoven did not let this obstacle hinder his career. In fact, in many
aspects his works flourished, and a new wave of creativity sparked in his career.
Beethoven was not the first to compose a multimovement piece for the piano, but he
was the first to stray from the former expectations of piano sonatas. Beethoven s new
sonatas were longer than most and incorporated dramatic elements. With just one
instrument Beethoven was able to convey so much power and emotion, something
that no one at the time
The Role Of Bessie Smith s Dominance In Blues Music
Bessie Smith
Bessie Smith is an American Jazz musician in the genre of blues. She was born on
the date of 15th April 1894. She is known to well for her dominance in the blues
genre music in the span of around 1920s and 1930s. Bessie attributes her success, by
working continuously with Louis Armstrong. Research indicates that Louis was a
key inspiration when it comes to the perfection of jazz vocals. In her time, Bessie
Smith proudly boasts as one of the best Blues musicians both in the US and the
world as a whole. However, her life was cut short in 1937 on September 26th, in a
fatal car accident. Regarding the above mentioned information, this paper discusses
more the life of Bessie Smith, collectively with the dominance in the Blue Music
(Scott, 2008).
What is Jazz type of music? It is a kind of music category that cherishes its origin in
the New Orleans, and basically from the African American people. Its styles include a
traditional type of autonomous music. It often uses polyrhythms, swing note, and
syncopation improvisations. Blues music on the hand is known to have its roots also
in the Deep South, with a high dominance of the African American musicians. It is a
type of music that incorporates chants, shouts, spirituals and relatively field hollers
(Kay, 2007). The above information as mentioned above assists the reader to know
an in depth analysis of the type of music of Bessie Smith.
Bessie Smith s birthplace is around Chattanooga in the Tennessee Valley. Her music
International Real Estate Is Important For Your Properties...
International Real Estate Shows
What is the best way to meet many foreign buyers for your properties and establish
personal connections with potential business partners abroad? To participate in
international real estate shows in the foreign countries of course. This chapter is
mostly aimed at realtors and developers, although for a private seller it would be
also informative if you want to have your property presented at such a show, then you
have to know what to ask your realtor whether they go to any international real estate
shows, in what countries, what are the results and how your property might be
represented at the upcoming shows, where and when.
It is the most exciting and also the most expensive way of reaching out to the market
of the foreign buyers for international real estate the costs of flights, hotels, visas plus
exhibition fees and translation and interpreting sum up. This method of real estate
marketing to foreigners can be effective or just a huge money waster depending on a
number of circumstances.
Of course, as always you would like to get a good return on your investment which
is an impressive number of sales of your international properties to foreigners
resulting from your participation in a real estate show in this case.
Here are 4 major risks (to lose your money) involved in going to a real estate show
abroad:
*Choosing a wrong show in terms of targeting visitors as some international real

Aviation Development With Jet Propulsion Projects For...
Through the course of the Second World War, Germany partook in numerous
courses of research and development of weapons systems and platforms that were
believed that they could help win the war more quickly and later hopefully turn the
tide of the war. Of these the more ambitious and advanced attempts without doubt
were the projects dubbed as Germany s Wunderwaffen, or Wonder Weapons , by
the nation s Propaganda network. Several of these projects proved instrumental to
advancement of many people of the world after the war, be such for military or
civilian development, and they ranged between the practical to outright insane in
scope. Through the course of this paper I will present and analyze a variety of these
Wunderwaffe projects from different areas of development and what effect they had
during or after the war for technological development. The first topic that will be
covered will be that of Aviation development with Jet propulsion projects for aircraft
within the Luftwaffe. Second will be projects involving several munitions projects
that Germany had undertaken during the course of the Second World War.
Aviation Projects Prior to and through World War Two, Germany pursued numerous
projects of advancement for its new fledgling Luftwaffe, one of such being the
pursuit of Jet propulsion and how to apply them to designs. One of the first of these
combat designs with Jet engines was the Messerschmitt Me 262 Schwalbe.

An Ethnographic Study of a Subway Resturant
Introduction Globalisation is a force that became the buzzword of the 1990s.
Various countries around the world have experienced a thrilling increase in trade,
innovation transfer and cross border investment flows in recent years. The effects
of globalisation and the evolution of the most developed economies are difficult to
separate and a few authors believe the effects of multinational enterprise to be a
defining feature of globalisation (Strange, 1986). In this essay, I am going to deliver
a wider understanding of globalisation through the study of a fast food restaurant,
subway to be precise. I am focusing on a branch of the restaurant in Bradford, paying

create a win win effect. Enthusiasts argued that there would be a transfer of
technology, undermining of elite privilege and that globalisation would contribute to
the general economic growth of nations. On the contrary, taking a more critical view
on the effects of globalisation, the findings seem to differ. The fact is that
globalisation is pretty much centralised on only a few countries run by a handful of
governments. China and India, For example, have been the only two countries to
realise any advancements in terms of development and poverty eradication through
globalisation, whilst trade openness has led to a rise in income inequalities and
generally very uneven gains in the South American regions. And one entire continent,
Africa, has actually become more marginalised (Tsikata, 2001, p. 12). The
governmental and economic institutions of the developing countries, especially the
latter, put them at a disadvantage where weak political, economic and legal structures
led to wide spread corruption, conflict and insecurity. Whereas, developed countries
already had good infrastructures coupled with high levels of skilled labour,
managerial competence and advanced technology making it almost impossible for
developing countries to compete. For example, the Japanese government vs.
Indonesian government car industry case at the WTO (Kompas, 19 July 1999 ed.).

Apple Vs Orange Trees
Handfuls of differences come with caring for apple and orange trees, for both are
unique species that have totally different needs when it comes to growing them.
To start off all different kinds of trees grow better in different climates. The
average apple tree is hardyer and can grow in the colder climate with less humidity.
However, the orange tree needs a relatively warm temperature year round or it will
die because the ground temperature is too cold for it to sustain life. Another issue
related to climate is pests and diseases, which has an ability to hinder a tree s
growth or even kill it. Since the orange trees live in such a warm environment most
of the pest are out of the sun and the diseases are carried off in the breezes there is
Native American Indian Baskets
A Northeast Indian basket was traditionally made out of pounded ash splints or
braided sweetgrass. Northern Indian tribes like the Ojibwe and Dene craft birch
bark baskets. Also the Inuit even makes whale baleen baskets. The original diversity
of Native American basket styles is still very much evident today. Native American
Indian Baskets range from very simple to elaborate and colorful works of art that
took great skill to make. These baskets also involves secret techniques that have been
past down from generation to generation. Many Northeast Indians used sweet grass
and mostly anything could be used in basketweaving as long as it was bendable and
could form a shape. Pitch ( which comes from Pine Trees ), was commonly used

by Arthur Asa Berger, Berger says that a sign is The first is based on an insight
from Saussure, who said that signs are composed of two elements a sound image
(such as a word or visual representation) and a concept for which the sound image
stands (Berger, 9). This means that on the surface, there are visuals people perceive
in their own way, but there can also be a different message that the movie is trying
to portray, by which Berger claims I said earlier that signs are anything that can be
used to stand for something else (Berger, 8). For example, in the movie King Kong
the audience may view it as a big ape causing mass destruction on everything the
foreigners see, holding captive of the girl he is interested in, and killing anyone in
his way. This is what people possibly see when they watch the movie, but there is a
side that they have not seen before, which is slavery. King Kong was viewed upon
as an entertainment because he was stripped away from his home and made into a
show which happened in the same way as the people of Africa being taken away

My Country By Dorothea Mackellar Essay
My Country is a cherished, timeless poem by Dorothea Mackellar that clearly
describes the Australian landscape. I am your host for today, Abbie Jennings.
Landscape is a significant part of identity and is important to Australians because of
its diversity.
Dorothea Mackellar, author of the poem, My Country, was born in 1885 , and
wrote My Country when she was 19 (B.Kingston, n.d). She grew up with three
brothers, a mother and a father. As a teenager, she travelled extensively with her
parents and as a result, she became homesick. While in London with her father in
1904, Mackellar began writing what was to become her most famous poem. On 5
September 1908 a poem, Core of My Heart , which she had written about 1904,

An example of this is exposed in the line, of droughts and flooding rains . This labels
Australia as harsh in times of droughts and changeable in the wet season. Throughout
this captivating poem, Dorothea uses the poetic technique of alliteration, such as
lithe lianas , steady and soaking, and flood, fire and famine. Mackellar uses
alliteration to accentuate the characteristics of Australian rural life and to generate
the result that Australia is occasionally harsh and unpredictable. Furthermore, she
uses onomatopoeia in the poem, drumming of an army. This creates a feel that
soldiers are marching to the beat of nature. The poet humanizes Australia by using
words like she and her . By doing this the reader feels that Australia is not a dead
piece of land but shares the similar characteristics to a person. My Country is a
rhyming poem, fourteen stanzas in length. The introductory two stanzas describe the
British scenery, but this is not the country that Mackellar longs for. The genre is part
of bush poetry but does not express a
Strong National Government
To begin with, the advantages of a small state include if there is any issue that

smaller the state it results in more self representation in the state. Additionally, an
advantage of a small state is they have the ability to define private property.
Moreover, the states have the power to define property (Ginsberg 68). But also they
have the ability to control citizens way of life. On the other hand, a disadvantage of

The book is essentially an action, suspense text and is written in the main characters

battle and the people pursuing the heroes. As is often the case with these sorts of
books, the main concepts of the story are bravery, and friendships in the face of evil

This is something that is understandably used as the story is aimed at a younger
audience however the formal approach in the text and the bloody events that

Therefore, whoever reads the book will be slightly annoyed at one thing or another

that Osborne uses a lot of place names and WW2 facts throughout which would be
useful for an adult reading the text and would also enhance it as it would seem a lot
more real and therefore increase your emotional investment in the book however to a
child, it all seems way too confusing and you are forever trying to wrap your mind

A gamma Camera detects gamma rays emitted by a radiopharmaceutical in the patient
s body. The camera reveals the distribution of radioactive material in a patient and this
distribution is determined by the uptake of radiopharmaceutical, which is dependent
on the function of the body. For example, in bone scan, technetium 99 m is injected
into the patient s body, this travels through the blood, and it s metabolised and
accumulated in the body.
The patient will lay on under the gamma camera. Then the gamma rays will be
emitted from the body as a result from the radiotracer, which travel out of the body in
all the directions.

The Electronic Toll Collection in Malaysia, Questions and...
Introduction (Maximum 2 pages)
Two decades ago, the answer of the following question of possibilities of cash
disappeared as a payment method is clearly No . Cash represents as financial
transaction of any products or services. The idea of having a cashless world has been
thinking long times ago.
The risks of handling cash are high compared to electronic money including toll fares.
The introduction of electronic payment system has created an opportunity for the
other payment system to be begun. It may be difficult for cash to be as payment
method to complete with new emerging payment system (Taylor, 2006).
The Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) in Malaysia has been introduced in the year
1994 at PLUS Expressway. It has evolved since then many changes have been
made. ETC consists of system and device that must be used together. It is types of
complementary items. To use the SmartTag, users must have Touch n Go card. The
ETC penetration has been grown steadily on June 2006. The average ETC
penetration rate nationwide is 37% and 50% for Klang Valley toll highways.
Electronic Toll Collection is a technology enabling the electronic collection of toll
payments. This system is capable of determining the car is registered or not, and then
informing the authorities of toll payment violations (Khadijah and Dr. Wahid, 2010).
Example of violation that can be recorded is exemption violation and also long
journey time.
ETC is the system that offers electronics passes that can be
The Supreme Court in the American Government
The Supreme Court is the highest judicial court in a county or state. In the legal
system of the United States, the Supreme Court is the interpreter of federal
constitutional laws. The Court consists of five justices appointed by five Republic
presidents and four by Democratic presidents. Although there are an unequal
amount of justices, some of the court decisions have supported and broadened
equal rights, while some have restricted them instead. However, most of these
cases prove that the Supreme Court is not considered to be democratic. First off,
the definition of democracy is that it is a form of government in which all eligible
citizens participate equally, either directly or through elected representatives.
Democracy plays a major role in government, considering it provides freedom and
liberty to citizens in the United States. There are many court cases where the
Court s decisions have disapproved the equality, such as the Dred Scott Case. In
1857, Scott v. Sandford, also known as the Dred Scott Case, involved the bitter
issue of the status of slavery in the federal territories. This court was about a case,
which was about a slave who had lived with his owner in a free state before
returning back to Missouri, a slave state. Dred Scott argued that it gave him the right
and freedom to emancipation. Originally, Justice Samuel Nelson was supposed to
argue that the case belonged in the state instead of a federal court, while other
justices were saying how
Health Promotion Research Paper
The significance of health promotion to change public health behaviors cannot be
ignored. Health promotion has been very crucial towards helping people consider
their health behaviors in recent years and as a result, many people are more mindful
of their health behaviors and lifestyle choices. Globally, majority of people are now
conscious of their healthand social wellbeing which are determined by several factors
outside the health system. They include socioeconomic conditions, patterns of
consumption associated with food and communication, demographic patterns,
learning environments, family patterns, the social and cultural fabric of societies.

There were fourteen communities, served by four CIS regional offices which were
predominantly black and randomly assigned to experimental and control groups. Six
radio advertisements targeting African American smokers to call the CIS for help to
quit smoking were developed and pretested for three different black oriented formats.
One television spot was also produced and pretested. The audio portion of the
television ad was used as a seventh radio spot for the general programming formats.
These advertisements were placed on selected radio and television stations reaching
predominantly African American adult audiences. Also copies of a video tape
designed to motivate African Americans to quit smoking and call CIS for help in
quitting were widely dispersed through community based organizations in each
experimental group. The aim was to increase the number and proportions of calls that
relate to quitting among African American smokers within experimental
communities. The project was implemented in a community based setting as the
target audience were African American smokers. The campaign focused on reducing
smoking habits
Brook Trout Possibility Study
Cool, you want to get Brook Trout I think I can help you learn what they need.
Brook trout will need a few things, so when you are starting your aquarium you will
need to go shopping. First of all, trout need 7 10 ppm oxygen to survive or they will
get sluggish. You can buy an oxygen with an air pump and an airstone to pump the
oxygen in the tank. Trout also need food, I would recommend dry shrimp and it has to
be once a day, because of it easy and puffs up in the water. Next trout need clean
water or their tank will get polluted. Buy a water filter and clean their tank with new
water 2 times a week. Trout need a PH of a perfect 6.5 7.5. If the PH level is below
6.5 they will get sluggish and if the PH level is higher 7.5 then they will
Northern Colonies Differences
While America was only in its early steps, a fresh and new nation, a rift soon began to
form, threatening to tear apart the continent before it had hardly begun. As cultures
began to form in the South and Northern colonies, so did mistrust and tensions
between them. Differences in Urban and Rural environments, focuses in different
areas of expansion, and finally the issue of diversity in both regions. While these
differences pushed the colonies farther and farther away, there were similarities
between them, keeping the nation together for as long as it could.
The economy of the South was based almost solely on plantations and manual labor.
While slavery grew in the South, as well as farming, other parts of the economy
shrunk. A lack... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The principles in the early South almost never changed until the Civil war, and ideals
from the creation of colonies became law, never to be changed. In this way, the South
walled itself from those who tried to settle there only to find themselves turned away
from society and shunned. Such people would be mixed children, those who were not
Christian, and Africans. Tolerance found in the north soon dwindled moving down to
the south, a devoutly Christian region until around the mid 1700 s. Lack of
communication and commerce with other nations as previously mentioned left the
south at a weak point, finding themselves turning others away, while being alone in
themselves. A key reason for the intense sense of culture in the modern South is this
isolation found early in the history of these colonies, where a sense of pride for these
Southern values becomes all encompassing. A bold similarity between the two
regions stands out, a core set of values, whether for the North and South. The
Northern colonies had a focus on the sciences, and advancement of civilization, while
the South wanted nothing more than to live on their precious land, and focus on the
plantation life they had come to develop, not eager to branch out into any other
The Battle Of The Second Triumvirate
The Battle of Philippi was the last fought battle of the wars of the second
Triumvirate. These wars were a fight between the forces of Marc Antony and
Octavian of the Second Triumvirate, and the forces of Marcus Junius Brutus and
Gaius Cassius Longinus. Brutus and Cassius were the assassinators of Julius Caesar,
Marc Antony and Octavian were very close allies with Julius Caesarand Octavian
would become the heir to his throne after the assassination. Because of this, Marc
Antony and Octavian would wage a war against Brutus and Cassius to avenge their
ally Julius Caesar. Immediately following the assassination of Caesar, Brutus and
Cassius fled to Italy to take control of the Eastern provinces. The three main

With the arrival of Republican admiral Gnaeus Domitus Ahenobarbus,
communications back to Italy were made very difficult because of the large fleet of
ships that he brought with him which blockaded the triumvirate. These fleets of the
Liberators did not wish to engage in a physical battle with the Triumvirate, but only
to block their communications with their supply base back in Italy. With this
swarming fleet they were able to outflank the Triumvirate and set up their own
defensive positions forcing Norbanus and Saxa to retreat from their positions moving
west giving the Liberators the upper hand at this spot. Brutus and Cassius were able
to gain position on the Via Egnatia on each side with this fleet. To the north and south
were impassable marshes and mountains. Brutus and Cassius then split their forces
each manning a North and South defensive position of the Via Egnatia. After arriving
to the scene, Marc Antony put his troops to the south while Octavian put his troops
to the north, preparing for battle with the Liberators. Marcus Junius Brutus was
always known in history as being too soft of a general. Although he had little
successful battle victories in Thrace and Lycia, he had always been judged as being
lacking in authority when it came to the generalship of his troops. Because of this,
Brutus was commonly referred to as a statesman than a military commander. The
other Liberator commander, Gaius
The Who Counterculture
The British invasion was responsible for internationalizing rock and roll, and has
managed to influence musical artists to this day. This musical movement of the mid
1960 s was composed of British groups combining the rebellious tone and image of
American music, with their own British style. I believe this music pushed free speech
to new heights in America. Music of this time period was revolutionary and
expressive, and transports me to an inspiring generation that existed before my time.

the song alternate between four simple chords. The lyrics are repetitive and simple

Essay on Workplace Violence
Workplace Violence Workplace violence can be defined as any action that can
threaten the safety of an employee, impact the employee s psychological or physical
well being, or cause damage to a company s property. Workplace violenceis not often
talked about, but it does kill people. In the last decade it has become one of the
leading causes of deaths in the workplace.
The University of Iowa Prevention Center has broken down workplace violence into

becomes violent while being served by the business. This category includes any
group that provides services. It is believed that a large proportion of customer

the victims are often patient caregivers. Other victims of this type of violence
would be police officers, teachers, or social workers. My mother who is a school
teacher would be an example of Type II violence. She was pushed down a small
flight of stairs when attempting to break up a fight. This type of workplace
violence could possibly affect me directly. A number of the students that I work

have been working I have seen verbal threats, but never physical threats. On the
other hand, I do work with two other people who would help me if a situation were

The next type of workplace violence is Worker on Worker (Type III). This is when
the perpetrator is an employee or past employee of the business who attacks or

Sin City (Use of Color)
Sin City and The Use of Color
There are many aspects in film today that help make it what it is. A film couldn t
live up to it s full potential without lighting, sound, and actors. However, quite
possibly one of the biggest advances in film was the introduction of color. Nothing
brings a movie to life more than seeing every hue of the rainbow. Today s world
demands the use of color in film, but is very underrated. For the most part, every
film is different and uses color in many ways to please the audience, but there is one
film in particular that uses it very differently. That film is Sin City (Frank Miller,
2005). While normally a movie is shot in full color, Sin City is shot in black and
white, and then color is later added. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The colors eventually stop, but they stop during the blue phase when Jackie Boy s
corpse starts to speak. It reminds Dwight that he is a cop, and only continues to
aggravate him. People will know that he is dead, which will spark a war between Old
Town and the cops.
Another important use of color is used for Roark Junior s body. While in the
beginning of the movie he s a regular person, he is almost killed, and then brought
back to life. The only problem is that multiple surgeries and medications have
turned him yellow. The significance of yellow is to show that he is both a coward
and a monster, while also accentuating his devilish ways. It represents his perverted
ambitions and shows how much worse he has become since the start of the movie.
It also shows that he is Hartigan s nightmare, because Hartigan saved little Nancy s
life 8 years prior from Roark Junior, and Roark has been looking for her ever since.
Hartigan eventually kills him, while the audience sees the splatter of yellow blood
around the room. This almost cartoonish scene of Hartigan killing Junior helps justify
the murder. Therefore, it helps portray Hartigan more as a hero rather than a villain.
In Sin City, the use of color is more for the audience rather than the characters. It
doesn t matter what color Dwight s shoes or Marv s blood are because their stories
will be told one way or another. However, it helps give the audience more
information. Each color signifies something
Fear As The Dominant Theme In The Chrysalids By John
Wyndham
Fear as the Dominant Theme.
Every single person in this world fears something, and there is magnificent amount
of different types of fear that people know of. Each type of fear has a different name.
For example, fear of change is called metathesiophobia, and fear of darkness is called
Achluophobia. Fear can be not only a phobia but in a novel it can be represented as
theme. One of the examples of a novel that has a lot of fear in it is The Chrysalids by
John Wyndham which took place in the future, years after a nuclear holocaust has
devastated large areas of the world. In that novel Wyndham explores many themes
throughout the text, the main one being fear. The existence of fear in this novel is
a critical factor in the unfolding of the plot. Most of the problems that occurred in
John Wyndham s tale happen because of fear. Overall, this is shown through
everyone s fear of being different, fear helped to develop Petra s character, and by
everyone thinking that if a baby was born as a blasphemy, the women is always
the one who is responsible for that, but never the man. In places like Waknuk
people are terrified of being different in anyway in the Image of God. To begin,
David, who is the son of Joseph Strorm, is praying in the church for dead Aunt
Harriet and he is overwhelmed by what will happen to him if someone figures out
that he is different. Please, please, God, let me be like other people. I don t want to
be different. Won t you make it so that when I wake up in the morning I ll be just
like everyone else, please, God, please! (Wyndham 76). This quote tells the reader
that even David is scared of being different. His fear was caused by Aunt Harriet s
death because of her child s small deviation. He finally comes to the understanding
of how much trouble he can get into because of his own deviation. Another
example of people fearing the difference is shown in the beginning of this novel
when David explains that children who do not behave well are frightened by their
parents with the Fringes people. In my father s childhood mothers used to quieten
and awe troublesome infants by threatening: Be good now, or I ll fetch Old Maggie
from the Fringes to you. She s got four eyes to watch you with, and four

The Importance Of Being A Performance Designer

Who Is Catherine The Great
Biography of Catherine the Great
One of the most interesting, hard working and powerful people to grace the pages of
history during the eighteenth century was Catherine II, Empress of Russia.
Historians have not always been so kind to her memory, and all too often one reads
accounts of her private life, ignoring her many achievements. The stories of her love
affairs have been overly misinterpreted and can be traced to a handful of French
writers in the years immediately after Catherine s death, when Republican France was
fighting for its life against a coalition that included Russia.
Catherine was born Sophia Augusta Frederika of Anhalt Zerbst on April 21, 1729 in
Stettin, then Germany, now Poland. Her father, Prince Christian... Show more content

It was at this time that Catherine, who had never felt more isolated, wrote: I should
have loved my new husband, if only he had been willing or able to be in the least
lovable. But in the first days of my marriage, I made some cruel reflections about
him. I said to myself: If you love this man, you will be the most wretched creature on
Earth. Watch your step, so far as affection for this gentleman is concerned, think of
yourself, Madame. The young couple settled down, but the marriage was a miserable
failure.
Catherine was disappointed with her marriage, but decided to stick it out and
concentrate on building herself a powerful group of allies. Catherine occupied
herself with reading everything she could lay her hands on. She discovered
satisfaction in the works of Plato and Voltaire. Her interest in the intellect caused an
even greater distance between Peter and herself. The years passed and there was still
no heir in sight.
This of course irritated the Empress who wanted to secure a powerful dynasty, and
could not do so without the presence of a male heir. She thought it must be
Catherine s fault because she was not attracted to her husband. However, it was
Peter that was not able to produce a male son, so Elizabeth permitted an affair
between Catherine and a Russian military officer named Serge Saltykov. Catherine
finally gave birth to a son, whom the Empress named Paul, on September 20, 1754.

Source Code Essay
There are several definition of source code, which makes regulating it difficult
because different regulators may have varying conceptions of just what it is, and as a
result, what kinds of rules should attach to it.
The general definition of source code that most people acknowledge is the version
of software as it is originally written by a human in plain text (Source Code).
According to this definition, code is written by humans in order to create software,
which can be any operating system, program or data with a processor. The average
person can see that the source code would be the code that the software needs in
order to function. This is source code but source code is also much more.
Another definition states holds that source code is any fully executable description
of a software system. It is therefore so construed as to include machine code, very
high level languages and executable graphical representations of systems (Harman).
At first glance, it seems just like the other definition. However, it only seems that
way because we automatically apply the assumption that the executable description
is the same as the version of software which may not necessarily be the case. The
description leads us to believe that the source code does not necessarily have to run
the software but can just be a description for said software. The first definition leads
us to believe that the code is that specific software. The second definition also
mentions machine code and
Consequences Of Imperialism In Africa
The Industrial Revolution made many new inventions that had many sources of
energy and materials needed to make them. For the nations with this technology,
Imperialism was a way for them to further Industrialize and generate economy.
Imperialism is the act of one country expanding its power to other territory in order
to colonize and gain resources, economy, knowledge, and control. European
countries with strong militaries used Imperialism in order to achieve these goals
but caused consequences in the long term. Africa, China, And India were
imperialized by European countries due to the cheap labor, raw resources,
research opportunities, and consumers available but this was greeted with many
rebellions, many deaths, unfair treaties, and spreading of technology and
knowledge from one country to the next. European powers wanted to colonize in
Africa due to cheap labor and raw resources available which led to many enslaved
people brutally dieing and territory being dispersed between other countries. The
resources found in Africa were diamonds, jewels, and copper which were being
mined out by the native enslaved people. Ivory and hides of animals were popular
for colonists to have. Normal citizens of tribes were dieing due to forced labor and
native animals were dying due to hunting. Colonists didn t even see imperialism as a
bad thing to the native people of Africa, seen in the poem A White Man s Burden.
Scientists saw Africa as an opportunity to expand knowledge in the
The And Its Effects On The Populations
Honeybees are important pollinator in the ecosystem, which provide pollination to
crop. Most of the crops are relied on the pollination of honeybee for reproduction.
However the colonies of the honeybees are affected by a syndrome, which causes
the population of honey bee decrease rapidly in winter. Honey bee undergoes a
serious pressure from Colony Collapse Disorder(CCD), which is a mysterious
problem. It causes a dead colony occurs with no adult bees or dead bee bodies can
with the queen, honey and immature bees still present in the colony. Honey can be
found in the hives, but the adult bees are losses from the colonies. The scientific
cause for CCD is still undetermined, but the predictive causes of the syndrome are
pathogens, parasites, management stressors, and environment stressors. It begins
from 2006 that the beekeepers reported losses of 30 90 percent of their bees. To
prevent the further lost of honeybee in the United States, ARS and the National
Institute of Food and Agriculture develop a Colony Collapse Disorder Action Plan to
help solve the problem. The decreasing of honey bee population caused by Colony
Collapse Disorder has huge impacts on the agriculture in the United States.
Honey bee is an important pollinator in the ecosystem and plays an important role
in the agriculture. Pollination can increase the value of crops for up to 15 billion
dollars ( Colony Collapse Disorder Action Plan. ). 1.3 million out of 2.4 million bee

The Gillette Connection In 1967, the Braun brothers sold the company to an American consumer products giant, Gillette. The Gillette Company, well known for its mass produced, mass marketed products like razors, blades, and toiletries, hardly seemed the company to become the parent of an elite class German firm. But Gillette was no stranger to Europe, having marketed its goods on the continent and in Britain since the turn of the twentieth century. It now saw the Braun acquisition as an opportunity to cover the dry end of the shaving business, as well as to extend its influence upward. Braun, for its part, had by 1967 grown to over 5,700 employees and operated in 144 countries, but it was too small to compete with the multinationals. Its management saw Gillette as a source of funding to enable them to do so. Shortly afterwards, Braun moved its headquarters from Frankfurt to Kronberg, a few kilometers away. For the first several years, Gillette left Braun s product strategy intact while infusing some of its management expertise into the organization. Very few people knew that this German company par excellence had an American owner. Braun expanded its operations in other countries and began to extend its target markets beyond the opinion leaders it had originally cultivated. Braun s Spanish operations were a case in point.
  • 3. Causes And Influences Of The Great Depression The Great Depression is a period synonymous with excruciating poverty and darkness worldwide. It can be said that an undeniable impact was felt upon all of the world s nations although it can also be said that not all countries were affected negatively. At the time, the majority of the powers of the world were for the most part all very much entwined both politically and economically. Thus, the research from this point on will cover not only what caused the depression, but how it impacted each of the major powers of the Asia Pacific, those being; the United States, China, Japan, and Russia (the former USSR). An in depth analysis of the Great Depressionreveals that the United States suffered huge losses, while China, Japan, and the Soviet Union were relatively unaffected. Cause of Great Depression: Let s begin by exploring the major causes and influences of the great depression. The most common belief held by many is that the great depression was triggered by the crash of the stock market in 1929, however while human nature requests that things fall into simplistic narrative (Ie. stocks crash, therefore economy follows suit) there is in reality no simple, concise answer to what caused the great depression. In the case of the stock market crash, it is simply a case of correlation not equaling causation. Just because the depression occurred soon after the stock market crash, does not mean it caused it. The roaring twenties was a fantastic time full of large scale

  • 6. Comparing Ludwig Beethoven And Beethoven s Appassionata... Both Ludwig Beethoven s Appassionata piano sonata and Franz Liszt s B minor sonata are recognized as some of the best compositions of the nineteenth century. The complexity and creativity of these pieces are astonishing. Considering both pieces are sonatas they have some similar aspects, but they are also very different which can be credited to the brilliant minds who composed them. These pieces are both masterpieces of their time which is what has made them stand out amongst the many songs composed during the nineteenth century. In this paper I will touch on the significant attributes of these pieces and compare their similarities and differences. The first piece I will introduce is Appassionata by Ludwig Van Beethoven. Appassionata was composed during a time of many changes in both Beethoven s life and the musical world around him. By 1800 Beethoven s hearing had deteriorated so much that he was almost completely deaf. Although this was not something easy to cope with, Beethoven did not let this obstacle hinder his career. In fact, in many aspects his works flourished, and a new wave of creativity sparked in his career. Beethoven was not the first to compose a multimovement piece for the piano, but he was the first to stray from the former expectations of piano sonatas. Beethoven s new sonatas were longer than most and incorporated dramatic elements. With just one instrument Beethoven was able to convey so much power and emotion, something that no one at the time

On the contrary, taking a more critical view on the effects of globalisation, the findings seem to differ. The fact is that globalisation is pretty much centralised on only a few countries run by a handful of governments. China and India, For example, have been the only two countries to realise any advancements in terms of development and poverty eradication through globalisation, whilst trade openness has led to a rise in income inequalities and generally very uneven gains in the South American regions. This means that on the surface, there are visuals people perceive in their own way, but there can also be a different message that the movie is trying to portray, by which Berger claims I said earlier that signs are anything that can be used to stand for something else (Berger, 8). For example, in the movie King Kong the audience may view it as a big ape causing mass destruction on everything the foreigners see, holding captive of the girl he is interested in, and killing anyone in his way. Mackellar uses alliteration to accentuate the characteristics of Australian rural life and to generate the result that Australia is occasionally harsh and unpredictable. Furthermore, she uses onomatopoeia in the poem, drumming of an army. This creates a feel that soldiers are marching to the beat of nature. The poet humanizes Australia by using words like she and her . By doing this the reader feels that Australia is not a dead piece of land but shares the similar characteristics to a person. My Country is a rhyming poem, fourteen stanzas in length. The introductory two stanzas describe the British scenery, but this is not the country that Mackellar longs for. Although there are an unequal amount of justices, some of the court decisions have supported and broadened equal rights, while some have restricted them instead. However, most of these cases prove that the Supreme Court is not considered to be democratic. First off, the definition of democracy is that it is a form of government in which all eligible citizens participate equally, either directly or through elected representatives. One television spot was also produced and pretested. The audio portion of the television ad was used as a seventh radio spot for the general programming formats. These advertisements were placed on selected radio and television stations reaching predominantly African American adult audiences. Also copies of a video tape designed to motivate African Americans to quit smoking and call CIS for help in quitting were widely dispersed through community based organizations in each experimental group. The aim was to increase the number and proportions of calls that relate to quitting among African American smokers within experimental communities. The project was implemented in a community based setting as the target audience were African American smokers. The campaign focused on reducing smoking habits

Brook trout will need a few things, so when you are starting your aquarium you will need to go shopping. First of all, trout need 7 10 ppm oxygen to survive or they will get sluggish. You can buy an oxygen with an air pump and an airstone to pump the oxygen in the tank. As cultures began to form in the South and Northern colonies, so did mistrust and tensions between them. Differences in Urban and Rural environments, focuses in different areas of expansion, and finally the issue of diversity in both regions. While these differences pushed the colonies farther and farther away, there were similarities between them, keeping the nation together for as long as it could. The economy of the South was based almost solely on plantations and manual labor. While slavery grew in the South, as well as farming, other parts of the economy shrunk. A lack... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The principles in the early South almost never changed until the Civil war, and ideals from the creation of colonies became law, never to be changed. In this way, the South walled itself from those who tried to settle there only to find themselves turned away from society and shunned. Such people would be mixed children, those who were not Christian, and Africans. Tolerance found in the north soon dwindled moving down to the south, a devoutly Christian region until around the mid 1700 s. Lack of communication and commerce with other nations as previously mentioned left the south at a weak point, finding themselves turning others away, while being alone in themselves. A key reason for the intense sense of culture in the modern South is this isolation found early in the history of these colonies, where a sense of pride for these Southern values becomes all encompassing. A bold similarity between the two regions stands out, a core set of values, whether for the North and South. The Northern colonies had a focus on the sciences, and advancement of civilization, while the South wanted nothing more than to live on their precious land, and focus on the plantation life they had come to develop, not eager to branch out into any other

With the arrival of Republican admiral Gnaeus Domitus Ahenobarbus, communications back to Italy were made very difficult because of the large fleet of ships that he brought with him which blockaded the triumvirate. These fleets of the Liberators did not wish to engage in a physical battle with the Triumvirate, but only to block their communications with their supply base back in Italy. With this swarming fleet they were able to outflank the Triumvirate and set up their own defensive positions forcing Norbanus and Saxa to retreat from their positions moving west giving the Liberators the upper hand at this spot. Brutus and Cassius were able to gain position on the Via Egnatia on each side with this fleet. To the north and south were impassable marshes and mountains. Brutus and Cassius then split their forces each manning a North and South defensive position of the Via Egnatia. After arriving to the scene, Marc Antony put his troops to the south while Octavian put his troops to the north, preparing for battle with the Liberators. Marcus Junius Brutus was always known in history as being too soft of a general. A film couldn t live up to it s full potential without lighting, sound, and actors. However, quite possibly one of the biggest advances in film was the introduction of color. Nothing brings a movie to life more than seeing every hue of the rainbow. Today s world demands the use of color in film, but is very underrated. For the most part, every film is different and uses color in many ways to please the audience, but there is one film in particular that uses it very differently. That film is Sin City (Frank Miller, 2005). While normally a movie is shot in full color, Sin City is shot in black and white, and then color is later added. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The colors eventually stop, but they stop during the blue phase when Jackie Boy s corpse starts to speak. It reminds Dwight that he is a cop, and only continues to aggravate him. People will know that he is dead, which will spark a war between Old Town and the cops. Another important use of color is used for Roark Junior s body. While in the beginning of the movie he s a regular person, he is almost killed, and then brought back to life. The only problem is that multiple surgeries and medications have turned him yellow. The significance of yellow is to show that he is both a coward and a monster, while also accentuating his devilish ways. It represents his perverted ambitions and shows how much worse he has become since the start of the movie. It also shows that he is Hartigan s nightmare, because Hartigan saved little Nancy s life 8 years prior from Roark Junior, and Roark has been looking for her ever since. Hartigan eventually kills him, while the audience sees the splatter of yellow blood around the room. This almost cartoonish scene of Hartigan killing Junior helps justify the murder. Therefore, it helps portray Hartigan more as a hero rather than a villain. In Sin City, the use of color is more for the audience rather than the characters. It doesn t matter what color Dwight s shoes or Marv s blood are because their stories will be told one way or another. However, it helps give the audience more information. Each color signifies something

Every single person in this world fears something, and there is magnificent amount of different types of fear that people know of. Each type of fear has a different name. For example, fear of change is called metathesiophobia, and fear of darkness is called Achluophobia. Fear can be not only a phobia but in a novel it can be represented as theme. One of the examples of a novel that has a lot of fear in it is The Chrysalids by John Wyndham which took place in the future, years after a nuclear holocaust has devastated large areas of the world. In that novel Wyndham explores many themes throughout the text, the main one being fear. The existence of fear in this novel is a critical factor in the unfolding of the plot. Most of the problems that occurred in John Wyndham s tale happen because of fear. Overall, this is shown through everyone s fear of being different, fear helped to develop Petra s character, and by everyone thinking that if a baby was born as a blasphemy, the women is always the one who is responsible for that, but never the man. In places like Waknuk people are terrified of being different in anyway in the Image of God. To begin, David, who is the son of Joseph Strorm, is praying in the church for dead Aunt Harriet and he is overwhelmed by what will happen to him if someone figures out that he is different. Please, please, God, let me be like other people. I don t want to be different. Won t you make it so that when I wake up in the morning I ll be just like everyone else, please, God, please! (Wyndham 76). This quote tells the reader that even David is scared of being different. His fear was caused by Aunt Harriet s death because of her child s small deviation. He finally comes to the understanding of how much trouble he can get into because of his own deviation. Another example of people fearing the difference is shown in the beginning of this novel when David explains that children who do not behave well are frightened by their parents with the Fringes people. In my father s childhood mothers used to quieten and awe troublesome infants by threatening: Be good now, or I ll fetch Old Maggie from the Fringes to you. She s got four eyes to watch you with, and four

Historians have not always been so kind to her memory, and all too often one reads accounts of her private life, ignoring her many achievements. The stories of her love affairs have been overly misinterpreted and can be traced to a handful of French writers in the years immediately after Catherine s death, when Republican France was fighting for its life against a coalition that included Russia. Watch your step, so far as affection for this gentleman is concerned, think of yourself, Madame. The young couple settled down, but the marriage was a miserable failure. Catherine was disappointed with her marriage, but decided to stick it out and concentrate on building herself a powerful group of allies. Catherine occupied herself with reading everything she could lay her hands on. She discovered satisfaction in the works of Plato and Voltaire. Her interest in the intellect caused an even greater distance between Peter and herself. The years passed and there was still no heir in sight. This of course irritated the Empress who wanted to secure a powerful dynasty, and could not do so without the presence of a male heir. She thought it must be Catherine s fault because she was not attracted to her husband. However, it was Peter that was not able to produce a male son, so Elizabeth permitted an affair between Catherine and a Russian military officer named Serge Saltykov. Catherine finally gave birth to a son, whom the Empress named Paul, on September 20, 1754. Peter accepted it as his

Source Code Essay There are several definition of source code, which makes regulating it difficult because different regulators may have varying conceptions of just what it is, and as a result, what kinds of rules should attach to it. The general definition of source code that most people acknowledge is the version of software as it is originally written by a human in plain text (Source Code). According to this definition, code is written by humans in order to create software, which can be any operating system, program or data with a processor. The average person can see that the source code would be the code that the software needs in order to function. This is source code but source code is also much more. Another definition states holds that source code is any fully executable description of a software system. It is therefore so construed as to include machine code, very high level languages and executable graphical representations of systems (Harman). At first glance, it seems just like the other definition. However, it only seems that way because we automatically apply the assumption that the executable description is the same as the version of software which may not necessarily be the case. The description leads us to believe that the source code does not necessarily have to run the software but can just be a description for said software. The first definition leads us to believe that the code is that specific software. The second definition also mentions machine code and
