9. The OER Journey
(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hlkKHMmzeJA&feature=youtu.be)
Timeline: Fall 2016
● Professional Selling class receive grades, and students are
asked about utilization of the textbook to help in the learning
● It was discovered that only 2 students in the entire class
purchased the required textbook (due to cost)
● This motivated me to look for alternatives - through research I
discovered OER Repositories (like BC Campus, ECampus
Ontario; OER Commons; Open Stax; Saylor; Merlot)
● I reviewed some related text resources, and discovered one
that was perfect

10. My OER Friend
● I liked the OER text so much, I contacted the author
● The author was so pleased that I wanted to adopt her textbook
that she sent me her syllabus, assignments and other supporting
materials
● I quickly learned that OER was not just about the resources - it
was about connecting with other faculty to collaborate and learn
from one another
● This OER resource has now been adopted and there are 3
sections utilizing this resource for the first time this winter, 2019
term
● This is not the end to my OER journey... Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike

11. OER Immersion
● I connected with the amazing mentors at eCampus Ontario who
provided tips and training on how I could continue my growth in the
OER world
● Through eCampus Ontario, I co-adapted a new Business OER
resource (which coincidentally is now available on the eCampus
Ontario Open Textbook Library) called Communication for Business
Professionals
● I would encourage everyone to consider having your own OER Journey
