Oceanography is an interdisciplinary science that draws from multiple disciplines including biology, chemistry, geology, and physics to study the ocean. The major disciplines of oceanography are physical, chemical, biological and geological oceanography. Ocean currents are studied by both physical and biological oceanography as they influence water properties and distributions of marine organisms.
