This lesson plan covers communication models and their key elements. It introduces three main models of communication: linear, interactive, and transactional.
The linear model describes one-way communication where the message is transmitted to the receiver but no response is given. The interactive model involves two-way communication with feedback from the recipient. The transactional model views communication as dynamic, occurring between individuals over time and subject to barriers that can disrupt information processing.
Students will discuss examples of the nature, process, and functions of communication. They will also differentiate the three models and identify the highlighted elements in each. An activity compares the models in a Venn diagram.
