EMPOWERING WOMEN THROUGH ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT
The Global Widows Report demonstrates that disadvantage in widowhood is not limited to one culture, society or region. Majority of the widows globally, live in extreme poverty and are often ostracized by the society. They have to struggle for gender equity on one hand and for their rights as a widow on the other.
Women in Bulambuli face similar problems as men in the society tend to control them through use of violence. The area also has significantly higher rates of polygamy and promiscuity which further enhances cases of high GBV. Owing to the high incidence of GBV in the area, there is a need to develop a program to help women get rid of such problems and are made aware of their rights and are empowered.
The proposed project seeks to usher 100 vulnerable women (widows and victims of all forms of GBV) from extreme poverty through entrepreneurship development in Bulambuli district, Uganda. The project will be implemented during a period of 12 months.
RURAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME OF BMCWS

DREAMS (Determined Resilient Empowered AIDS-free Mentored Safe) Innovation Challenge (IC) is a partnership of 56 organizations to implement innovative solutions that reduce HIV infections in adolescent girs and young women (AGYW) in 10 countries. DREAMS is responding because adolescent girls and young women are getting infected with HIV at alarming rates (~360,000 every year). WEI/Bantwana DREAMS IC focuses on the highly vulnerable under-served sub-population of AGYW who are pregnant/young mothers who have recently dropped out or are in school, but at the greatest risk of dropping out.
The holistic package of services to prevent AGYW school drop-outs includes: Prevention to create supportive environment for girls in schools and communities: training of teachers on GBV and sexual violence, Protect our Youth Clubs, early warning system for girls' retention, and parent/community sensitization on girls' education.
and Response to address educational needs of pregnant girls and teen mothers: part time continuing education for girls, mentorship for girls to support retention, wrap-around services (HTC, ASRH, financial literacy, and life skills), and early childhood stimulation classes.
Challenges include long standing cultural practices and beliefs which are barriers to these girls' access to education, in school and in the community, lack of male/partner support, and limited time frame, budget and small sample sizes.
Key strategies/Lessons learned: Government involvement at all levels, inclusive strategy for in-school POY clubs and PTCE sites, and involvement of male partners.

Youth in Action Balochistan (YIAB) is a non-profit organization based in Quetta, Balochistan, Pakistan that works to fight poverty and injustice in rural communities. It was established in 2007 by a group of young development professionals to address pressing issues in Balochistan. YIAB operates programs in microfinance, education, health, water and sanitation, food security, governance, and more. It aims to empower local communities, especially women and youth, through capacity building, advocacy, and mobilizing grassroots organizations. YIAB has worked with various international and government partners on projects related to livelihoods, disaster risk reduction, gender equality, and other development themes.

Through an in-depth analysis of printed and electronic media, the study examines the impacts of these sacrifices on the academic and personal lives of those involved. The paper highlights examples from various universities, demonstrating student activism's long-term and short-term effects, including disciplinary actions, social backlash, and career implications. The researchers also explore the broader implications of student sacrifices. The findings reveal that these sacrifices are driven by a profound commitment to justice and human rights, and are influenced by the increasing availability of information, peer interactions, and personal convictions. The study also discusses the broader implications of this activism, comparing it to historical precedents and assessing its potential to influence policy and public opinion. The emotional and psychological toll on student activists is significant, but their sense of purpose and community support mitigates some of these challenges. However, the researchers call for acknowledging the broader Impact of these sacrifices on the future global movement of FreePalestine.

Objectives of BCW Provide affordable nursery school services to enable parents to freely go to work or be self employed provide women and the youth with development skills, training for in come generating activities and self-sufficiency for the alleviation of poverty encourage responsible citizenship, power sharing and equal economic opportunities provide education on HIV/AIDS in order to empower women with the ability to negotiate with their partners for safer sex encourage women to participate in self-help-projects facilitate the establishment of skills development centres in the villages advocate and lobby for the eradication of all forms of discrimination against women and the girl child.

Effectiveness or achievements of BCW BCW has a number of outstanding achievements, among them are the following: The Botswana Council of Women has established over 33 Nursery Schools all over Botswana. These schools provide Day Care and food for children while their mothers are at work It successfully established a Goat Rearing Project in Ditlharapeng. This generates some income for women especially those in rural areas They offer six months courses on Dressmaking and fashion design. At least 20 people are trained every year in their headquarters in Gaborone At least 20 people are trained on linen making (curtains, comforters, and cushion making) in one-month courses BCW has trained people on hair dressing i.e. the correct use of chemicals, plaiting and styling over the years They have been the organisers of Miss Botswana contests over the years.
