industry.
It aims to deliver the right skills for the
industry now and in the future.
OPITO was established to meet industry
demand for a competent and competitive
workforce. To achieve this it works with
industry employers, training providers and
higher education providers.
This case study demonstrates how the
right people with the right skills ensure
that the sector can maximize the
recovery of the remaining oil and gas
reserves as well as remaining
competitive and profitable.
Q 1. Using an example, describe what
is meant by lifelong learning?
Lifelong learning is defined as
“all learning activity undertaken
throughout life, with the aim of
improving knowledge, skills and
competences within a personal, civic,
social and/or employment-related
perspective”.
 Learning is unavoidable and happens all the
time. However, lifelong learning is about creating
and maintaining a positive attitude to learning both
for personal and professional development.
 Lifelong learners are motivated to learn and develop
because they want to: it is a deliberate and voluntary
act.
 Lifelong learning can enhance our understanding of
the world around us, provide us with more and better
opportunities and improve our quality of life.
Q2. Explain the difference between
core skills and competences
SKILL:
 Something you already know and learn.
 Something which is tangible.
COMPETENCES:
 Competences are effective application of
skills.
 Skill force is critical to an organization to remain
competitive.
 Required highly talented workforce the search for
talent is highly competitive.

Responsible for maintaining machines,

 A role which is different and unlike is an organization or
industry and it turns in another direction for exploration
steps to be taken.
