Organizational change involves altering the structure, technology, or people within an organization. Change is inevitable as organizations must adapt to external pressures like technological advances and market/social changes, as well as internal pressures such as new management or deficiencies. The process of change involves three phases - unfreezing old ways of thinking, changing to new behaviors/models, and refreezing the changes. Resistance to change can come from individuals worried about job/skill obsolescence or social impacts, or from the organization due to threats to power or sunk costs. Overcoming resistance involves education, participation, incentives, manipulation, and sometimes coercion.
