NYChessKids organizes scholastic chess tournaments in New York City for children aged 3 to 18 across various skill levels and sections. Tournaments are held on weekends and provide an opportunity for children to play against other students from across the city in a competitive environment while preparing for larger events. 5. Talking Points (1) Encourage children to play chess with children from different schools from all across the city in an enthralling environment. Open to children aged 3 to 18, grades Pre-K to 12th. Wide range of sections to accommodate every age group and skill level. Excellent preparation for State or National scholastic chess events.

6. Talking Points (2) Over the past few years NYChessKids organized some of the biggest and most competitive scholastic chess tournaments in New York City. NYChessKids can organize a chess tournament at your school at no cost to you. Chess tournaments bring prestige to your school and also encourage your own students to play at their school's chess tournament.

8. How to Register Online Visit www.nychesskids.com and navigate to tournaments. Fill out and submit your registration form online. Mail Visit www.nychesskids.com and navigate to tournaments. Download the registration form. Fill out the registration form and send it to us by mail.

9. Schedule (1) 8 AM to 9 AM Onsite registration for people who did not register online. 9 AM to 9:45 AM Parents & children arrive. Sections will be posted on wall charts. Round 1 pairings will be announced. 9:45 AM Opening Ceremony. Each section will be called and children gather in the tournament hall. 10 AM Start of the tournament.

12. Sections (1) Unrated Sections For children who just started to learn chess. Rated Sections For more experienced children who want to play in a competetive environment. Children are required to write down the moves on a score sheet and to play with a chess clock. Children must be a member of the USCF - United States Chess Federation. Games will be rated by the USCF based on individual performance.

15. No Score Open to children in grades Pre-K and Kindergarten who are absolute beginners. Many kids who play in this section may not even know all the rules of chess. There will be constant supervision of this section. Trophies and medals to all. Entry-level section for children who want to play their first chess tournament. This section is unrated.

16. Novice 1 Open to children in grades Kindergarten and 1st. This section is meant for children who know how to play chess but who are inexperienced in playing in a chess tournament. This section is unrated.

17. Novice 2 Open to children in grades 2nd - 5th. This section is meant for children in elementary school who know how to play chess but who are inexperienced in playing in a chess tournament. This section is unrated.

19. K-1 Open to children in grades Kindergarten and 1st. This section is intended for children who are already experienced playing in chess tournaments. Entry-level section for children who are interested in obtaining a USCF rating. 600 USCF rating upper bound. This section is rated.

20. Primary Open to children in grades Kindergarten to 3rd. 800 USCF rating upper bound. Time control: Game in 45 minutes or game in 40 minutes + 5 seconds delay per move. 4 rounds. This section is rated.

21. Reserve Open to children in grades Kindergarten to 12th. 1,000 USCF rating upper bound. Time control: Game in 45 minutes or game in 40 minutes + 5 seconds delay per move.

22. Classic Open to children in grades Kindergarten to 12th. The USCF rating has to be between 1,000 and 1,300. Time control: Game in 60 minutes or game in 55 minutes + 5 seconds delay per move.

23. Open Open to children in grades Kindergarten to 12th. The USCF rating has to be between 1,300 and 1,600. Time control: Game in 60 minutes or game in 55 minutes + 5 seconds delay per move.

24. Championship Open to children in grades Kindergarten to 12th. The USCF rating has to be at least 1,600. Free entry for children whose rating is over 2,000! Time control: Game in 60 minutes or game in 55 minutes + 5 seconds delay per move.
