Quality control and quality assurance are vital in this industry. Many production workers are assigned full time to quality control and quality assurance functions, whereas other employees may devote part of their time to these functions. For example, although pharmaceutical company sales representatives, often called detailers, work primarily in marketing, they engage in quality control when they assist pharmacists in checking for outdated products.
Advances in manufacturing processes are also impacting the industry. While pharmaceutical manufacturers have long devoted resources to new drug development as a source for future profits, firms are increasingly realizing that improvements throughout the drug pipeline are needed to stay competitive.

Marketing Plan
Vita-Go, Inc., a division of PepsiCo
1. Company Description
Vita-Go, Inc. is a division of PepsiCo which was formed by Jennifer Stieffenhofer, Christine Stear, Sally Swartz, Ryan Tate, Jonathan Vick, Jaclyn Wisecarver, and Teel Witt to develop, market, and promote a product that is inexpensive and convenient for the consumer to utilize on a daily basis in order to promote wellness. Initially, the line was introduced in the Lynchburg, Virginia market, spread to Maryland within the next 2 years, and to North and South Carolina within the next few years.
To the best of Vita-Go’s knowledge, Vita-Go is the only product/beverage on the market today that, with just one simple twist of a cap and a shake of a bottle, releases a daily dose of vitamins and nutrients equal to a person’s recommended daily intake of vitamins. What also sets the bar high on this product in relation to others is the availability of the product. While most manufacturers feel that their product can only be available in health stores, Vita-Go is not only available in health stores, but also grocery, convenience, and superstores.
2. Strategic Focus and Plan
“This section covers three aspects of corporate strategy that influence the marketing plan: (1) the mission, (2) goals, and (3) core competency/sustainability competitive advantage” (Kerin, Hartley & Rudelius, p.47) of PepsiCo.
Mission
Vita-Go’s mission is in line with PepsiCo’s mission which is "to be the world's premier consumer products company focused on convenient foods and beverages. We seek to produce financial rewards to investors as we provide opportunities for growth and enrichment to our employees, our business partners and the communities in which we operate. And in everything we do, we strive for honesty, fairness and integrity" (PepsiCo, 2015).
Vision
"Our vision is put into action through programs and a focus on environmental stewardship, activities to benefit society, and a commitment to build shareholder value by making PepsiCo a truly sustainable company” (PepsiCo, 2015).
Performance with Purpose
Just like PepsiCo, “we're committed to achieving business and financial success while leaving a positive imprint on society - delivering what we call Performance with Purpose. Our approach to superior financial performance is straightforward - drive shareholder value. By addressing social and environmental issues, we also deliver on our purpose agenda, which consists of human, environmental, and talent sustainability" (PepsiCo, 2015).
Goals
For the next five years, Vita-Go seeks to accomplish the following goals:
· Nonfinancial goals - “As a leading food and beverage company, we believe we can play an important role in helping people lead healthier lives”, (PepsiCo). Vita-Go’s bottle will be manufactured by PepsiCo. PepsiCo, as well as Vita-Go, seeks to achieve a healthier lifestyle by presenting vitamins on the market that allow customers to enjoy their vitamin in-take.

New Directions in Targeted Therapeutic Approaches for Older Adults With Mantl...i3 Health
i3 Health is pleased to make the speaker slides from this activity available for use as a non-accredited self-study or teaching resource.
This slide deck presented by Dr. Kami Maddocks, Professor-Clinical in the Division of Hematology and
Associate Division Director for Ambulatory Operations
The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center, will provide insight into new directions in targeted therapeutic approaches for older adults with mantle cell lymphoma.
STATEMENT OF NEED
Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) is a rare, aggressive B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) accounting for 5% to 7% of all lymphomas. Its prognosis ranges from indolent disease that does not require treatment for years to very aggressive disease, which is associated with poor survival (Silkenstedt et al, 2021). Typically, MCL is diagnosed at advanced stage and in older patients who cannot tolerate intensive therapy (NCCN, 2022). Although recent advances have slightly increased remission rates, recurrence and relapse remain very common, leading to a median overall survival between 3 and 6 years (LLS, 2021). Though there are several effective options, progress is still needed towards establishing an accepted frontline approach for MCL (Castellino et al, 2022). Treatment selection and management of MCL are complicated by the heterogeneity of prognosis, advanced age and comorbidities of patients, and lack of an established standard approach for treatment, making it vital that clinicians be familiar with the latest research and advances in this area. In this activity chaired by Michael Wang, MD, Professor in the Department of Lymphoma & Myeloma at MD Anderson Cancer Center, expert faculty will discuss prognostic factors informing treatment, the promising results of recent trials in new therapeutic approaches, and the implications of treatment resistance in therapeutic selection for MCL.
Target Audience
Hematology/oncology fellows, attending faculty, and other health care professionals involved in the treatment of patients with mantle cell lymphoma (MCL).
Learning Objectives
1.) Identify clinical and biological prognostic factors that can guide treatment decision making for older adults with MCL
2.) Evaluate emerging data on targeted therapeutic approaches for treatment-naive and relapsed/refractory MCL and their applicability to older adults
3.) Assess mechanisms of resistance to targeted therapies for MCL and their implications for treatment selection

Ethanol (CH3CH2OH), or beverage alcohol, is a two-carbon alcohol
that is rapidly distributed in the body and brain. Ethanol alters many
neurochemical systems and has rewarding and addictive properties. It
is the oldest recreational drug and likely contributes to more morbidity,
mortality, and public health costs than all illicit drugs combined. The
5th edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders
(DSM-5) integrates alcohol abuse and alcohol dependence into a single
disorder called alcohol use disorder (AUD), with mild, moderate,
and severe subclassifications (American Psychiatric Association, 2013).
In the DSM-5, all types of substance abuse and dependence have been
combined into a single substance use disorder (SUD) on a continuum
from mild to severe. A diagnosis of AUD requires that at least two of
the 11 DSM-5 behaviors be present within a 12-month period (mild
AUD: 2–3 criteria; moderate AUD: 4–5 criteria; severe AUD: 6–11 criteria).
The four main behavioral effects of AUD are impaired control over
drinking, negative social consequences, risky use, and altered physiological
effects (tolerance, withdrawal). This chapter presents an overview
of the prevalence and harmful consequences of AUD in the U.S.,
the systemic nature of the disease, neurocircuitry and stages of AUD,
comorbidities, fetal alcohol spectrum disorders, genetic risk factors, and
pharmacotherapies for AUD.

6. Nutraceuticals:
A Glimpse
Since Dr. Stephen DeFelice coined the term “Nutraceutical” from “Nutrition” and “Pharmaceutical” in 1989, it was
used to describe medicinally or nutritionally functional foods. Progressively, nutraceuticals, have also been called
as medical / designer foods, phytochemicals, functional foods and nutritional supplements, these include everyday
products as “bio” yogurts, fortified breakfast cereals, as well as vitamins, herbal remedies and recently developed
genetically modified foods and supplements. These nutraceuticals have received considerable interest due to
potential nutritional, safety and therapeutic effects.
The incidence of COVID-19 pandemic had bought in a paradigm shift in the nutraceutical industry. The
nutraceuticals, that were thought of as an elite platter of consumables have now turned out to be the essential needs
of most of the people enhancing immunity - a sensitive and important feature resorted during this pandemic.
While the global nutraceuticals market as a whole is projected to grow at a CAGR of 7.5% during the the next five
years (2020 - 2025), the global dietary supplements market size which was valued at USD 140.3 billion in 2020 is
expected to grow at a CAGR of 8.6%. Further, the sales of dietary supplements that were $48 billion in 2019 grew
to $52 billion in 2020, and are reported to reach $58 billion this year. Among these increased sales, there are specific
product categories with particularly reported promising sales trends. This includes collagen peptides, immune
supplements, and stress supplements.
A detailed patent study of Nutraceuticals for the last one month was carried out. The search included a global
coverage embracing all the granted as well as the published patent literature. The search retrieved 943 records, that
were further curated and the ones that focussed on nutraceuticals were considered for the further study.

10. Artificial Intelligence to play a key role in the
Nutraceutical industry... India to be one of the leaders...
A Global Survey
Amit Srivastava
Chief Catalyst
Nutrify Today
On the other hand, 12% of the respondents also believe that profiling individuals and
providing specific dosages and ingredients as per their requirements will be a possibility too.
The food can be prepared by a convergence of robotics and 3D printer using lab-grown
ingredients as per the biochemistry and need of the body at that particular time.
Artificial Intelligence is going to play a
pivotal role in the Nutra industry too as the
food matrix will be designed as per
individual needs using data and
algorithm, opine 15% of the industry
leaders.
Amit Srivastava, Chief Catalyst and
Founder of Nutrify Today, believes that the
future of Nutra is going to be different from
how it is today. Nutrify Today has been
working towards shaping the growth of
the Nutraceuticals industry by
empowering responsible nutrition
businesses.
A global industry survey conducted by Nutrify Today, the
world’s first and only nutraceuticals i2c (ideas to
commercialization) platform, has found that there is
growing optimism around the food and nutrition industry
globally.Nutraceutical industry leaders from the USA,Israel,
Switzerland, Singapore, India, Hong Kong and Japan were
engaged in the survey.
The technological advancements in the Nutra industry will
enable a more personalized approach towards nutrition
over the next three years with accurate sensors possible via
collaborations with expertise in the MedTech industry
stated 26% of the respondents.
11. The survey also discovered optimism about
India’s role in the forward movement of
Nutra-tech and Nutraceuticals industry in the
future. Around 24% of the respondents
believe that India will be a leading innovator
second only to the United States. With the
emergence of fingerprinting of Phyto
ingredients from 52 agro-climatic zones,
strengths of Indian IT industry coupled with
convergence hub of MedTech like Biovalley
Incubation Council and AMTZ in India will
drive convergence innovation in Nutra-tech.
The majority of the industry leaders already
believe that the existing early versions of
technutra products in the market have done
well in the US. Precision nutrition using
technutra is going to gain global
significance in the future. With the growing
“Automated personalized nutrition
where artificial intelligence will
manage the nutrient needs and
the source of ingredients will
evolve into sustainable
methodologies using biotech,” he
says.
“There are already early-stage
entrants who are working on the
Nutra-tech. Nutraceuticals of the
future will be a multi-disciplinary
function of the science which will
drive personalized precision
nutrition into habits of individuals
rather than individuals changing
habits to adopt something new,”
adds Srivastava.
adoption of fingerprinting of Phyto
ingredients, deployment of blockchain
technologies, it will also change the
agricultural sector with an increased
demand for nutrition-rich. The industry
leaders, on the other hand, also identified
certain challenges like lack of skilled
workforce and global regulatory framework,
data privacy, high cost, etc. In a complex
environment with opportunity and
challenges, it’s often the new generation
start-ups that drive innovation and the same
is evident from all emerging success stories
across the world. The technutra will be an
innovation-driven by start-up and eventually,
there will be large nutrition conglomerates
that would enter this segment by way of
M&A.
