A Physical Science Technician is responsible for planning and conducting laboratory experiments and projects in support of physics and nuclear engineering courses at West Point. They provide technical assistance to faculty and students on laboratory equipment and guide students in designing experiments. The technician independently performs experiments, sets up laboratories, maintains equipment, procures supplies, and ensures accountability of $3.3 million in assigned equipment. They also serve as the hazardous materials and calibration coordinator.

8. Serves as a Physical Science Technician within the D/P&NE and is responsible for planning and conducting laboratory experiments and
projects in support of Core Physics, Advanced Physics, Nuclear Engineering, Lasers and Optics, and three Research Centers. Provides
technical assistance to staff, faculty, and cadets on laboratory equipment utilization and care. Guides cadets and faculty in the design and
assembling of experimental apparatus, and the generation, compiling, editing, and interpretation of experimental data. Independently
performs experiments as needed to validate new procedures, sets up laboratory areas for course instruction, maintains and repairs the
associated equipment, and procures required equipment, material and supplies to support the physics laboratory program. Lays out all
laboratory requirements in the correct sequence and secures and stores all materials following use. Insures full accountability of 3.3
million dollars of assigned equipment. Serves as the department hazardous material, environmental compliance and planning officer, and
calibration coordinator.
