2. Often, policy officers will possess an innate orientation for detail with strong written and communication skills. They will have research
and analytical skills, as well as the ability to think critically, solve problems and negotiate effectively.

Applying Behavioural Insights in NSW
A new form of evidence-based policymaking has triggered
an explosion of interest within governments in Australia
and around the world. Behavioural insights (BI) helps us
understand human behaviour and decision making and
applies that knowledge to government. It draws on research
into behavioural economics and psychology to influence
people’s choices, and has been shown to be a cost-effective
method in making improvements to a range of public
services and policies, such as tax collection, getting people
back to work and encouraging people to attend cancer
