The Novodevichy Convent is located in southwest Moscow along the Moscow River. Founded in 1524 by Tsar Vasily III, it originally served as both a religious site and fortification. The current buildings date to the 1680s when the monastery underwent major restoration. The complex includes several churches, notably the Cathedral of the Virgin of Smolensk with its five domes and iconic iconostasis. Other buildings include the Gate-Church of Transfiguration, Gate-Church of Intercession, and a 72m tall bell tower.
