Novi Sad is the capital of Vojvodina and the second largest city in Serbia. It lies on the banks of the Danube River between 1252-1262 kilometers of the river's flow. Novi Sad was established in 1694 and has been a center of Serbian culture for a long time, earning it the nickname "Serbian Athens." It is a university city with a state university as well as many private colleges and high schools.
