Details are small pieces of information that support the main idea by speaking about people, events, things, time, objects, circumstances, situations or manner. There are six categories of details: examples, facts, statistics, reasons, definitions, and descriptions. Examples give specific information, facts can be proven, statistics provide numbers, reasons explain why something happened, definitions explain meanings, and descriptions provide mental pictures.
