The North Africa Campaign took place from 1940 to 1943 between Allied and Axis forces in North Africa. It included several major battles and campaigns, such as the Western Desert Campaign, the Battle of El Alamein, and Operation Torch. The Battle of El Alamein in 1942 was a major turning point that resulted in Axis forces under Rommel retreating. Operation Torch saw Allied forces successfully invade Morocco and Algeria in 1942. This was followed by the Tunisia Campaign, which involved over half a million Allied and Axis troops and resulted in over 200,000 Axis casualties and the capture of 275,000 Axis prisoners of war.
