The wild wild west of Selenium CapabilitiesAdi Ofri
Not all desired capabilities where born equal:
– Some were born in the world of open source, while others were born as vendor proprietary properties.
– Some are mandatory, and some are optional.
– Some are clear and deterministic, others are vague and require reading and experimentation.
– Some make it easy to change vendors without breaking a sweat, while some will lock you into a specific implementation.
Chrome Extensions are fun to build and very powerful, thanks to the expansive API Google provides. This talk will explore techniques for structuring and testing your extension projects, using tools such as Grunt, Browserify and Venus.js. A quick refresher of major extension development concepts will be also be reviewed.
In agile software development world, we are dealing with many test tasks such as user story testing, exploratory testing, check-list based testing, regression testing, performance testing, security testing in each sprint. Besides these testing activities, one of the test types which is considerably getting crucial is visual regression testing.
Visual regression testing focuses on to check visual contents and animations, page layout, and responsive design of a website/app. Because of the limits of human vision, human-based visual regression testing is generally error-prone and cumbersome. Hence, automation is inevitable. It enables us to run the tests much more precisely in a short time period. Also, it saves us a significant amount of time to deal with other manual test activities in each sprint.
In this talk, we will walk through well-known open-source and commercial solutions for visual test automation. We will learn which technologies they use, what type of visual tests they are suitable for, and their major differences between each other. Besides this overview, we will also make a real-life visual test automation demo by using Selenium, ImageMagick, and AShot.
This session aims to shed some light on an emerging test automation tool, Cypress. Cypress resolves many of the test automation problems that a QA or a dev may face in UI Web Automation testing. And after a walkthrough, we will compare cypress with Selenium as well.

Midwest PHP 2017 DevOps For Small teamJoe Ferguson
DevOps is a large part of a company of any size. In the 9+ years that I have been a professional developer I have always taken an interest in DevOps and have been the "server person" for most of the teams I have been a part of. I would like to teach others how easy it is to implement modern tools to make their everyday development and development processes better. I will cover a range of topics from "Stop using WAMP/MAMP and start using Vagrant", "version control isn't renaming files", "Automate common tasks with shell scripts / command line PHP apps" and "From Vagrant to Production".
Actually testing is as important as development and we all want to write code that works. So, why not test our front-end code?
To do that we can use some tools as Selenium, Jasmine but I will explain QUnit because it's used in Drupal8 testing.
QUnit is a powerful, easy-to-use JavaScript unit testing framework. It's used by the jQuery, jQuery UI, jQuery Mobile projects, also by Drupal, and is capable of testing any generic JavaScript code.
Session presented at Drupalcamp Gotemburg 2013 where I explained how to include QUnit testing in our Drupal projects.
Mobile Web Test Automation: to the Desktop! - Alexander Bayandin - Mobile Tes...Badoo
What does it usually look like when people do Mobile Web Test Automation? They write a couple of tests, run them on different desktop browsers, and then only after that, try to run on emulators/simulators. The final step is adapting and fixing the tests for browsers on real devices.
Luckily, we developed our tests for Mobile Web on real devices. But some time ago we decided to run on Desktop as well.
Why? What were the benefits for us? How do we have both Appium and Selenium tests in one repository? And what challenges did we face? I'll discuss this, as well as many other things, in my talk.
React Native - Unleash the power of React in your device - Eduard Tomàs - Cod...Codemotion
ReactJs has a young brother called React Native that it is ready to jump from the web development to mobile native development. And that is great, because React and its "one direction data flow" philosophy is one of the coolest things that happened past year :) In this talk I'll give a brief summary about React, its style and philosophy and how we can use React Native to build native applications for iOS and Android using JavaScript and the same set of tools and workflow we use to create web applications.

Real World Single Page App - A Knockout Case Studyhousecor
This presentation explores lessons learned from building a highly complex single page application that's used by 100's of automotive dealerships to finance and sell cars. We’ll walk through how to manage a pure client-side application with 1000’s of lines of custom JavaScript and review how Web API, Knockout, Durandal, RequireJS, KendoUI, and surprisingly little jQuery can join forces to make the browser sing. You’ll gain a clear understanding of when a single page app approach makes sense and learn how to pragmatically divide responsibilities between the client and server. This session will give you an appreciation for how far you can push ultra-responsive client-side rendering in the real-world.

Use React tools for better Angular appsMartin Hochel
Angular, React, Vue… they all have their own ecosystem, specific patterns and best practices… For us, the developers, this might become indeed very frustrating as we have to switch between various projects with various libraries… Have no fear, universal solution is here! In this session I will show you how to learn libraries/patterns/tooling only once and apply it everywhere. 🖖
Elm - Could this be the Future of Web Dev?David Hoerster
As a developer who enjoys building concurrent and distributed applications, dealing with the front end has never been a favorite task. And I have often thought that building front-end applications by mixing logic into HTML tags has never felt right. What if I could build my web app using a more unified language and approach? Well, enter Elm, a functional language that transpiles to JavaScript while providing static type checking. In this session, we'll take a look at what Elm provides, how its simple Model-Update-View architecture can bring a lot of power to your applications, and we'll walk through a simple SPA demo in order to provide you a taste of what Elm can provide. At the end of this session, you'll have a better understanding of Elm's approach to web application development and be equipped to build your own Elm applications.
There are tons of awesome new tools produced by terrific companies and developers that get everyone excited about using their fancy new tool-set by essentially starting from scratch. This talk is not about using a fancy new framework and rewriting your entire application. As a developer who has spent the majority of his time working in legacy codebases where the first commits pre-date jQuery, it's hard not to get wrapped up in the "I want to rewrite the whole app with X" mentality. But in reality, time constraints or just the legacy framework you're building your apps with doesn't allow for that. Or, more realistically, it just needs to work and there is no business case for a rewrite. What this talk will show you how you can still enhance your front-end operation within an existing legacy codebase. I'll talk about first steps to modularizing a monolith, or simply taking a portion of a legacy app and modernizing it with a new toolset. This not only helps you as a developer to succeed with new tools, it makes you feel like you aren't being left behind in the modern world. Whether you're using legacy jQuery, or just some crammed together JavaScript, you shouldn't lose the ability to modernize your application, just because you can't buy in 100% to a modern framework.
Tips on how to break apart your monolithic JavaScript
Building an extension method to modularize your application
Creating backcompat methods for legacy code modernization
Using a modern framework for a portion of your app, and integrating that with your existing code.

Understanding Globus Data Transfers with NetSageGlobus
NetSage is an open privacy-aware network measurement, analysis, and visualization service designed to help end-users visualize and reason about large data transfers. NetSage traditionally has used a combination of passive measurements, including SNMP and flow data, as well as active measurements, mainly perfSONAR, to provide longitudinal network performance data visualization. It has been deployed by dozens of networks world wide, and is supported domestically by the Engagement and Performance Operations Center (EPOC), NSF #2328479. We have recently expanded the NetSage data sources to include logs for Globus data transfers, following the same privacy-preserving approach as for Flow data. Using the logs for the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) as an example, this talk will walk through several different example use cases that NetSage can answer, including: Who is using Globus to share data with my institution, and what kind of performance are they able to achieve? How many transfers has Globus supported for us? Which sites are we sharing the most data with, and how is that changing over time? How is my site using Globus to move data internally, and what kind of performance do we see for those transfers? What percentage of data transfers at my institution used Globus, and how did the overall data transfer performance compare to the Globus users?
Modern design is crucial in today's digital environment, and this is especially true for SharePoint intranets. The design of these digital hubs is critical to user engagement and productivity enhancement. They are the cornerstone of internal collaboration and interaction within enterprises.

Climate Science Flows: Enabling Petabyte-Scale Climate Analysis with the Eart...Globus
The Earth System Grid Federation (ESGF) is a global network of data servers that archives and distributes the planet’s largest collection of Earth system model output for thousands of climate and environmental scientists worldwide. Many of these petabyte-scale data archives are located in proximity to large high-performance computing (HPC) or cloud computing resources, but the primary workflow for data users consists of transferring data, and applying computations on a different system. As a part of the ESGF 2.0 US project (funded by the United States Department of Energy Office of Science), we developed pre-defined data workflows, which can be run on-demand, capable of applying many data reduction and data analysis to the large ESGF data archives, transferring only the resultant analysis (ex. visualizations, smaller data files). In this talk, we will showcase a few of these workflows, highlighting how Globus Flows can be used for petabyte-scale climate analysis.

56. Due to the philosophy, users and toolset
ember is the antidote to the
javascript fatigue
Conclusion
57. Revisited: What is the Javascript (hype) fatigue?
● too many options
frequency of new starlets very high
every framework claims is the best
new frameworks solve problems and introduce new ones
no stability and continuity
boilerplates … boilerplates … even more boilerplates
tooling is bad
too many APIs
too much configuration
59. Glimmer.js
embers rendering performance was
debatable
Glimmer = VM for DOM rendering (not a
virtual DOM)
Glimmer.js = Framework on top of the
VM
combined with the ember-cli
create new apps with conventional project
layout
Typescript support
generators for components and helpers
small file size
Glimmer VM is already included in ember
