Data Prep - A Key Ingredient for Cloud-based AnalyticsDATAVERSITY
Data for analytics comes in many forms, from many sources. This data holds invaluable insights for business, but currently business intelligence teams are spending as much as 80 percent of their time preparing and cleansing this data, rather than analyzing it. The challenge for today's BI and data science teams is to make this data preparation phase more efficient, so they can combine data from multiple sources - on premise and in the cloud - and shape it to be fully optimized for analytics. This webinar will demonstrate how new cloud applications and services can enable an ecosystem where data preparation, movement and analytics are seamless, for both the technical and non technical user within the enterprise.
How Enterprises are Using NoSQL for Mission-Critical ApplicationsDATAVERSITY
NoSQL databases including Couchbase are increasingly being selected as the backend technology for web and mobile apps. Document databases in particular are well suited for a large number of different use cases as an operational datastore.
In this webinar, Perry Krug, Principal Solutions Architect at Couchbase, will give a brief overview of Couchbase Server, a document database and its underlying distributed architecture. In addition, Perry will share how some of the biggest brands in the world use Couchbase, including:
Paypal A scalable NoSQL and big data architecture with real time analytics
Concur A highly available cache solution that supports 1B operations/day
Amadeus A backend data store that supports 1.6B transactions/day
In the domain of data science, solving problems and answering questions through data analysis is standard practice. Data scientists experiment continuously by constructing models to predict outcomes or discover underlying patterns, with the goal of gaining new insights. Organizations can then use these insights to strengthen customer relationships, improve service delivery and drive new opportunities. To help guide the processes and activities within a given domain, data scientists and engineers need a foundational methodology that provides a framework for how to proceed with whichever methods or tools they will use to obtain answers and deliver results. In this presentation, we will share data science tips for data engineers.

InfiniteGraph Presentation from Oct 21, 2010 DBTA WebcastInfiniteGraph
Here is the presentation from Warren Davidson, Director of Business Development, and Darren Wood, InfiniteGraph chief architect. The October 21, 2010 webinar hosted by DBTA, with InfiniteGraph and Riptano, covered new data technologies and how the NOSQL ("Not Only SQL") approach is beneficial in addressing some of the more complex application, scalability and performance requirements in handling vast amounts of data, and in performing advanced analytics on those data volumes with greater ease and speed.
Graphs and Artificial Intelligence have long been a focus for Franz Inc. and currently we are collaborating with Montefiore Health System, Intel, Cloudera, and Cisco to improve a patient’s ability to understand the probabilities of their future health status. By combining artificial intelligence, semantic technologies, big data, graph databases and dynamic visualizations we are deploying a Cognitive Probability Graph concept as a means to help predict future medical events.
The power of Cognitive Probability Graphs stems from the capability to combine the probability space (statistical patient data) with a knowledge base of comprehensive medical codes and a unified terminology system. Cognitive Probability Graphs are remarkable not just because of the possibilities they engender, but also because of their practicality. The confluence of machine learning, semantics, visual querying, graph databases, and big data not only displays links between objects, but also quantifies the probability of their occurrence.
We believe this approach will be transformative for the healthcare field and we see numerous possibilities that exist across business verticals.
During the presentation we will describe the Cognitive Probability Graph concepts using a distributed graph database on top of Hadoop along with the query language SPARQL to extract feature vectors out of the data, applying R and SPARK ML, and then returning the results for further graph processing. #AllegroGraph

OrientDB vs Neo4j - Comparison of query/speed/functionalityCurtis Mosters
This presentation gives an overview on OrientDB and Neo4j. It also compares some specific querys, their speed and the overall functionality of both databases.
The querys might not be optimized in both cases. At least they have the same outcome and are both written as querys. For sure in Neo4j you should do this in Java code. But that is way harder to write, so this presentation is more like a direkt comparision instead of really getting the best results.
Also it's done with real data and at the end round about 200 GB of data.
Turning Big Data into Smart Data with Graph TechnologiesInfiniteGraph
join Objectivity, Inc.’s, Nick Quinn in a discussion of the latest trends in Big Data Analytics, defining what “Big Data” is and understanding how to maximize your existing architectures by utilizing NOSQL technologies to improve functionality and provide real-time results.
How Graph Database technology, like InfiniteGraph, can support complex relationship analytics problems.
How to turn your Big Data into Smart Data.
How to develop applications with significant time-to-market advantages and technical cost savings.
As humans, we face an increasing amount of data and information every day. To derive meaning and make sense of this complex world, we constantly scan the world around us and select what we believe is important and what is not. In this session I will go trough the end to end framework about turning data into business actions.
Using A Distributed Graph Database To Make Sense Of Disparate Data StoresInfiniteGraph
Presented at DataWeek SF Oct 13
Most analytics depend on data-mining and statistical correlation of information held in single data stores. It is generally inefficient to replicate diverse data, which may be stored in enterprise databases or NoSQL "Big Data" repositories and consolidate them using a single database technology. Although federated queries can help with statistical correlation of data values across data stores the technique is not very good at handling the data stored in relationships because the data stores generally have no knowledge of one another. The speaker describes a different approach that uses graph (relationship) analytics to extract structural data from existing repositories, store representations of the nodes and connections in a graph database, then analyze them to extract additional value.
Data Visualization is about helping people gain knowledge from data. The focus of this workshop is on approaches to turn data into actionable insights, combining heuristics for visual analytics with techniques from user-experience design. Participants will learn how to choose and create data visualizations driven by user-oriented objectives, through presentations and an in-class exercise. The class exercise will be conducted in small groups. Workshop class size is limited to 60 participants, on a first-come, first-served basis.

As businesses grapple with more and more data, analysts and data consumers have a growing expectation to get at those assets fast. All too often, business users are stymied by governance and performance roadblocks, making time-to-insight a relatively slow process. One solution is to leverage the power of an analytic platform, one that keeps data management in IT’s hands, and lets business analysts jump right in without the need for modeling and provisioning.
Register for this episode of The Briefing Room to hear veteran Analyst Dr. Robin Bloor as he explains the principles behind a meaningful analytic platform. He’ll be briefed by Peter Hoopes and Allen Bonde of Actuate, who will tout their company’s BIRT Analytics, a solution that combines columnar database technology with pre-built algorithms and puts analytics in the hands of the business user in minutes, not days. They will show how their platform makes it easy to perform complex analytics on enterprise data and visualize results, without slowing down other systems or interfering with governance needs.

Open Source Data Visualization for Resource Sharing: An Ivy Plus Libraries Pr...Heidi Nance
https://sched.co/GB4S
Presentation by Heidi Nance and Joe Zucca.
In order to better understand scholarly use of a vast collective collection - both within and without our 13-library partnership - Ivy Plus Libraries is leveraging MetriDoc, an open-source framework devised by a library for libraries, to create a generalizable data analysis infrastructure and visualization service. MetriDoc gathers, normalizes, and presents BorrowDirect consortial Resource Sharing data as well as ILLiad (interlibrary loan + document delivery) data from all 13 Ivy Plus Libraries—more than 500,000 transactions, annually. It integrates seamlessly with Tableau or other commodity statistical applications, thus allowing staff in any functional area (Assessment, User Services, Collections, IT, Technical Services, User Experience, Research & Instruction, etc.) to query, download, and interpret resource sharing data to support a variety of one-time or ongoing assessment projects.
In this session we will discuss the Ivy Plus project and goals, the framework’s IMLS-funded history, and basic architecture, myriad use cases, and creative opportunities for future extensibility and connections with third-party systems common to libraries. Come learn how you, too, can analyze the larger-than-you-might-expect Resource Sharing data universe.

Microservices, Events, and Breaking the Data Monolith with KafkaVMware Tanzu
One of the trickiest problems with microservices is dealing with data as it becomes spread across many different bounded contexts. An event architecture and event-streaming platform like Kafka provide a respite to this problem. Event-first thinking has a plethora of other advantages too, pulling in concepts from event sourcing, stream processing, and domain-driven design.
In this talk, Ben and Cornelia will tackle how to do the following:
● Transform the data monolith to microservices
● Manage bounded contexts for data fields that overlap
● Use event architectures that apply streaming technologies like Kafka to address the challenges of distributed data
Speakers:
Cornelia Davis, Author & VP, Technology, Pivotal
Ben Stopford, Author & Technologist, Office of CTO, Confluent

The notion of “reward” has long been a basic and critical component of a loyalty program. But now with the rise of social channels, mobile payment, geo-location and gamification, our definition of reward is undergoing a dramatic shift, along with ideas on how frequently rewards need to be delivered to drive behavior. The challenge for brands will be how to integrate these new reward models into existing programs in a way that will maximize benefit without alienating existing members.
Barry Kirk and Mary Luckey invite you to join us for this webinar and engage in a dialogue exploring new approaches that are enabling companies to significantly rethink their reward strategy in order to drive competitive differentiation and results.
