2. What is NME?
• NME was created by Theodore Smythson and edited by Krissi
Murison
• It is a music publication in the United Kingdom, where it is
published weekly since March 1952.
• Target audience of 16-19 year olds
• It started as a music newspaper, and gradually moved toward a
magazine format during the 1980s.
• It was the first British paper to include a singles chart in a
November edition.
• In the 1970s it became the best-selling British music newspaper.
3. Parent company
NME magazine’s parent company is IPC Media (Time Inc.). IPC Media
owns more than 60 iconic media linked brands which are aimed at different
audiences. This allows their company to broaden its audience with different
magazines.
Most of the brands they own are magazines which limits their range of
products.
IPC Media was first formed in 1963.
