This document summarizes research on tuning the bandgap of silicon quantum dots (SiQDs) through surface functionalization with conjugated organic ligands. Computational modeling predicted that attaching triphenylamine-based ligands to the SiQD surface via conjugated vinyl linkages would result in a type-II energy level alignment and red-shift the photoluminescence by 259 nm (0.24 eV). Experimental results showed a 70 nm red-shift in photoluminescence of SiQDs functionalized with the designed triphenylamine ligand compared to decyl-capped controls, supporting the computational predictions. Characterization with FT-IR and XPS confirmed successful surface functionalization while minimizing oxidation. This research demonstrates an effective
