Developing Robust IoT Gateway Applications from Building Blocks
Gateways are essential components in IoT systems. Apart from providing network access to the leaf nodes, they can also run applications. This is important to reduce response time, network traffic, keep sensitive data within local boundaries and keep the system up even if the network is down. Home gateways, industrial field agents, on board units and roadside stations are examples for gateways.
Application development for such gateways is hard. Since gateways tie together hardware and network resources, developers need a broad set of skills to begin with. Development is further complicated since applications must work autonomously, managed remotely and handle the incoming streams of events. To solve these challenges, we have developed Reactive Blocks, a tool to create applications from building blocks. Blocks can encapsulate protocols, hardware access and application patterns. This leads to increased reuse, enables automatic code generation and automated checking of designs.
Choosing the Right IP Cores for Low-Latency Video Streaming
A negligible delay from video capture to display—the “glass-to-glass” latency—is critical for many video streaming applications, from advanced driver assistant systems (ADAS) and unmanned vehicles to video conferencing and broadcasting. Choosing the IP cores that will enable a successful low-latency video system is not a trivial task: designers must first understand the factors that impact latency, then select cores that provide adequate control over the latency-critical functions. In this presentation, we will apply these considerations to a typical end-to-end video streaming system, providing guidance on avoiding latency pitfalls and explaining how glass-to-glass latency depends largely on the rate control attributes of the system’s video compression cores.

Project calico - introduction
Calico provides secure network connectivity for containers and virtual machine workloads.
Calico creates and manages a flat layer 3 network, assigning each workload a fully routable IP address. Workloads can communicate without IP encapsulation or network address translation for bare metal performance, easier troubleshooting, and better interoperability. In environments that require an overlay, Calico uses IP-in-IP tunneling or can work with other overlay networking such as flannel.
Calico also provides dynamic enforcement of network security rules. Using Calico’s simple policy language, you can achieve fine-grained control over communications between containers, virtual machine workloads, and bare metal host endpoints.
