George Frideric Handel was born in 1685 in Halle, Germany. He was a skilled musician from a young age despite his father's disapproval of music. He wrote his first opera in 1704 and had great success in London composing oratorios including Messiah. Though he suffered a stroke in 1737, Handel continued composing until his death in 1759, leaving a significant body of work that influenced later composers like Haydn and Beethoven.
