QR Codes in the Classroom: Ideas for Implementing QR Codes Across Subjects
1. QR Codes in the Classroom
Have you utilized QR codes in the classroom?
What they are, how do you create them,
and how to implement them in different subject
areas

3. QR Readers
• Get out your cell phones
• Go to your app store
• Search QR readers / (free)
• Download
• How we doing? Let’s try it out!
4. What do you know about QR Codes?

7. Use a QR Code Generator
There are many online tools for generating QR codes
which you can use in the classroom.

All of these different types of information can be stored
in a code:
• A short piece of text
• Website address
• Email addresss
• Phone number
• Audio Files
• Videos
• …much much more

9. Math / Foreign Language/Alternative
Create a more realistic class shop
Using life skills (money use), I know that
many of us set up “class shops”. Why not
add another dimension to this by pricing up
some of the class shop items with QR codes
that students can scan to find out the price
in the same way that items would have their
barcodes scanned at the checkout of a real
shop. After a while, you could have a ‘sale’
and get students to adjust the prices linked
to the AR codes by 10% to extend the
learning.

10. English, Math, Foreign Language, Gym, Alternative
Odds and Ends
• Add QR codes to math worksheets with video
tutorials on how to solve the problem…
• Add QR codes sot the school literary magazine to
lead people to a gallery of all the artwork that
was submitted but couldn’t fit in the print
version
• Add QR codes on every research assignment to
subscription databases and reputable starting
points. Slide info from https://twitter.com/smcneice
11. Make a data chart
In Math, provide some data on a
paper handout with a QR code
for an online graphing tool like
Create-a-Graph
12. Students can share with others
• When adding student resources to your website,
add a QR Code next to the article . The students
are then able to scan and share with other
students.
• Idea from @LRDow
13. Controversial “Difficult” Topics
• If the topic in your class is difficult and maybe a
bit embarrassing / uncomfortable for
students…QR codes might help students to
“anonymously” peruse privately the information
that directly applies to their situation/life.

14. All Classrooms
Adding QR codes to Word documents
for students to check their answers
Laminate sheets and pin them up round the classroom

15. Futuristic Books
1. Use a QR code generating website to create a code
for the book.
2. Print out a copy of the Code
3. Attach the code to the book and return the book to
its original location.
Imagine going to find a book,
but rather than simply reading
the blurb you could scan a code
to reveal a YouTube video with
people explaining the book, a
podcast of someone reading the
book, a short text review or even
a website that lists similar books.
The possibilities are endless.
16. What?
• Listen to a book
• Listen to a video
• Students watch video then answer worksheet
• Good for a small groups or with a buddy
• Plenty on Pinterest
• Check Code before you make copies –
some sites may not work on your campus
17. Create a Kinesthetic Reading
Adventure
• Create a “choose your
Own adventure story
That has individual QR
Codes that need to be
Scanned in order to ad-
Vance through the story.
Place the QR codes around
The school/classroom to
Encourage moment.
18. Kinesthetic Reading Adventure
• @mrrobbo The PEGEEK
• Geocached QR Codes for revision/tests
Using a GPS place a series of
markers around the school
(recording their position). On
each of the markers, place a
QR code that contains a question. Watch the Video
Students move around using the
GPS to find the markers to therefore
Answer the questions and get the clue
To the next marker. A great way to get
People moving during a test/quiz etc.

Can also put them into places in book that link to online comprehension questions for parents or to websites that children can use to find out more information about the book or related games they can play
