In At the Crossroads, Philip Coltoff examines how not-for-profit organizations can address today’s critical issues in ways that will help redefine their missions and expand their visions. Not-for-profits, because of their size, budgets, and number of employees, are considered the third sector in American life, joined by the for-profit free enterprise system and government. Due to recent social and economical crises, the not-for-profit industry is struggling to provide for its growing number of clients. Coltoff examines the full scope of issues that must be addressed for the not-for-profit industry to grow, meet its obligations, and secure its place in the American social system.

Micro Economic Business Model To Employ The HomelessAlan Graham
Recognizing that many of our homeless population desire to have fulfilling employment but whose circumstances might not warrant gainful employment we want to implement a business model to create work for those who are physically and mentally capable. Many in the industry of service to the homeless have noticed that most struggle with the typical structure of employment and may even be learning disabled; struggling to keep a commitment and to stay focused. When asked what they best like about being homeless one of the common answers is freedom. We will reach out to those entrepreneurs in the community who desire to mentor the formerly homeless in starting small flexible businesses. Skills taught will be startup, management, marketing, customer service and operations. All of the profit will go towards the newly minted entrepreneur. The goal is to create a modest living income source that is sufficient to live with dignity within the Habitat on Wheels community. That income is approximately $850 per month net.

The Growing Influence Of Latina Women In BusinessL'ATTITUDE
Certain patterns - also in business – are repeated all the time. In most societies men reach the top quicker and earn more than women, also more than immigrants. Look at this example: It is estimated, in the U.S. that Latinas earn only 55 cents for every dollar that white men earn, which is also more than what Hispanic men earn.
This document discusses poverty through a lens of belongingness. It argues that in a wealthy democracy, poverty is largely about social exclusion and lack of belonging rather than just material inequality. It says that as excluded groups increase in size, the realities of their exclusion affect not only the targeted group but society as a whole. Belonging involves having one's well-being considered and ability to participate in and influence political and social institutions. The document discusses how different groups are positioned on a gradient of belonging, and how far from the center determines the level and form of exclusion they face. It argues we must transform narratives that relegate groups outside of belonging to effectively address poverty.
