1. The power of Collective Action

As you know, in any society you will find five sources of power:
Political, Economical, Ecclesiastical, Media and the Internet power.
But today, I want to tell you about the “power of giving back”, the way
people and communities organize themselves to create what sociologists call: “Collective
Action”!
And that’s exactly what we do at the National Society of Hispanic MBA-DFW Chapter:
We embrace the largest community of Hispanic professionals in the Metroplex to help them
move forward in their careers.
The way we do it is by running monthly events to help them connect with different recruiters,
companies and career decision makers, through three types of events:
1) Executive events
2) Educational events
3) Networking events
Now, this really sounds very easy, isn’t? Truth, it is the opposite!
Every time we try to invite a Fortune 500 company to sponsor our events, we found an
automatic hesitation, resistance to support our mission.
And, it is also truth that this is the common problem we all nonprofit organizations face every
year.
That is why, today, I would like to invite you to think besides the economic power PEPSICO and
Frito Lay have achieved, but rather, to think about your own power, to think about the
possibility you have in your hands to join a nonprofit organization, whichever you like to
choose, if it is NSHMBA-DFW, even much better!!!
But, I assure you, you will discover the best version of yourself by helping other people you
don’t necessarily know, and also, you will discover the power of “collective action”.
Thank you so much for having us!
