NFC is a short-range wireless technology that allows data exchange between devices within 20 centimeters. It uses magnetic field induction and operates at 13.56 MHz. One device needs an NFC reader/writer while the other needs an NFC tag to communicate. By 2013, one in five phones are predicted to have NFC capabilities. Examples of NFC use include downloading content, exchanging contact info, and mobile payments at point-of-sale terminals. The NFC ecosystem includes many organizations working to expand NFC applications and adoption.
