Newton's third law of motion states that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. The law is explained using everyday examples such as walking, swimming, a man jumping off a boat, and the recoil of a gun. In each case, when one body exerts a force on another, the second body exerts an equal and opposite force back on the first body according to Newton's third law of motion.

1. NEWTONS THIRD LAW OF MOTION
Newton’s third law of motion states that to every action there is always an equal and opposite reaction.
When one body exerts a force on a second body, the second body simultaneously exerts a force equal in
magnitude and opposite in direction on the first body. The force that exerted by first body on second body is called
force of action and the force that second body exerts on the first body is called force of reaction. The force of action
and reaction are always equal and opposite.
Examples:
Walking:
To walk on the ground, we push the ground backward with our foot. As a reaction the ground pushes our foot
forward with same force. It is the forward reaction force of ground that enables us to walk forward.
Walking becomes difficult, When the ground is covered with snow or sand this is because When ground is
covered with snow or sand, our foot can exert much smaller force in the form of backward action.
Swimming:
While trying to swim, swimmer pushes water backward with his hands and feet, this is the force of action and
water pushes swimmer forward with same force of reaction.

2. Man on boat:
Suppose the sailor is in a boat near the river bank. As the sailor jumps from boat to river bank the boat is
pushed away. This is because, according to Newton's third law of motion, for every action, there is an
equal and opposite reaction. When the man jumps from a boat, he applies force on the boat due to
which boat moves backward. An equal force is exerted by the boat on the man which helps the man to
jump out of the boat.
Recoiling of gun:
When the bullet is fired from the gun, the gun recoils that is the gun move backward through a small
distance giving jerk to the shoulder of gun man.
This is because on firing the gunman exert some force on bullet in forward direction. In return bullet
exerts an equal force on gum in the backward direction. The distance moved by the gun is smaller
because gun is heavier than the bullet.
