                  The Chief Guest Paying Tribute to S R Ranganathan, the father of Library
                                              Science in India

                The Twenty one days In-service Course for Librarians of KVS started
                with the Inaugural function at 9.30 AM. Honourable Dr. Sayed Akhil
                Ahmed, Dean, Mysore University and Chief Guest of the function lit the
                traditional lamp.

                Welcome address was given by Mr. M Reddenna PGT (Geo), followed by
                address by Mr. P C Raju Principal, KV Mysore. Aims and Objectives of
                the course was highlighted by Mr. Vilas Vernekar, Librarian and course
                co-ordinator, ZIET Mysore.

                The inaugural function was followed by a great by a guest lecture on
                changing role of Librarians in century by Dr. Sayed Akhil Ahmed. He was
                focused on change in the mind set up of Librarians change of attitude
                and more emphasis on Academics and Librarians role as a motivator.

                Mr. Mujib Rahaman, Librarian and Resource person of the course
                proposed vote of thanks to the guests and solicited co-operation from
                participants for smooth running of the course. After a short Tea break,
                session started with Ice Breaking activity wherein pairs were made to
                introduce one another.

                In the afternoon session followed with pretest after that group formation
                and various committees were formed.

                The day’s programme concluded with the assignment for the forth
                coming days.

                                      The National Forum on Information Literacy defines information literacy as “...the ability to

                                                 Storage of Information can be Manual by way of Projects,         assignments       etc. and
                                                 Electronic in form of Digital Storage media.

                                                make effective and ethical use of information:
                                                 Guidance by the Librarian and the IT specialist in browsing the needed information.

                                             apply information to create and communicate knowledge:
                                              Students can apply the information gathered by way of their Class Work (C.W.) and Home
                                      Work (H.W.) and Subjective project works.

                                      Learning   skills which may contribute to make this ‘philosophy’ alive are included in the following
                                      list:
                                                self-directed learning skills
                                                cooperating skills
                                                planning skills
                                                locating and gathering skills
                                                selecting and appraising skills
                                                organising and recording skills
                                                communicating and realising skills
                                                evaluating

                                      The Librarians shall teach the students these skills in a systematic way

In-Service Course for Librarians A Newsletter 01.09.2012 Volume 1, Issue 1 The Chief Guest Paying Tribute to S R Ranganathan, the father of Library Science in India The Twenty one days In-service Course for Librarians of KVS started with the Inaugural function at 9.30 AM. Honourable Dr. Sayed Akhil Ahmed, Dean, Mysore University and Chief Guest of the function lit the traditional lamp. Welcome address was given by Mr. M Reddenna PGT (Geo), followed by address by Mr. P C Raju Principal, KV Mysore. Aims and Objectives of the course was highlighted by Mr. Vilas Vernekar, Librarian and course co-ordinator, ZIET Mysore. The inaugural function was followed by a great by a guest lecture on changing role of Librarians in century by Dr. Sayed Akhil Ahmed. He was focused on change in the mind set up of Librarians change of attitude and more emphasis on Academics and Librarians role as a motivator. Mr. Mujib Rahaman, Librarian and Resource person of the course proposed vote of thanks to the guests and solicited co-operation from participants for smooth running of the course. After a short Tea break, session started with Ice Breaking activity wherein pairs were made to introduce one another. In the afternoon session followed with pretest after that group formation and various committees were formed. The day’s programme concluded with the assignment for the forth coming days.
