This award brings the total value of awards from ADNOC Offshore to ADNOC Drilling in 2022 to
$5.95 billion (AED21.84 billion) to maximize value from Abu Dhabi’s offshore oil and gas resources.
In October, ADNOC Drilling was awarded a contract worth $1.52 billion (AED 5.58 billion) for the
provision of jack-up and island rigs and associated Integrated Drilling Services. This followed two
awards in August worth $3.43 billion (AED12.59 billion) to hire eight jack-up rigs.
ADNOC Offshore is supporting ADNOC’s drive to expand production capacity to five million barrels
per day (mbpd) by 2030 and enable gas self-sufficiency for the UAE, and ADNOC Drilling is a critical
to delivering on these strategic objectives.
ADNOC Drilling’s rig fleet spans 105 owned rigs, including 28 offshore jack-up units, one of the
largest operational jack-up fleets in the world. The company’s expansive rig fleet and expertise are
key drivers in its ability to win and service large-scale drilling contracts for customers such as
ADNOC Offshore.

U.S: Sony and Honda plan to start U.S. deliveries of E.V in 2026
CNBC + NewBase
The Sony-Honda joint venture focused on electric vehicles plans to begin deliveries to the United
States and Japan in 2026.
Sony Honda Mobility, as it’s known, aims to start taking pre-orders for its vehicle in the first half of
2025, and hopes to start sales before the end of that year. “For sales, SHM plans to focus on online
sales,” a statement released Thursday said.
U.S. deliveries are slated to start in the spring of 2026, with deliveries to the Japanese market
happening in the latter half of the same year.
Yasuhide Mizuno, the chairman and CEO of Sony Honda Mobility Inc., speaks during a news
conference in Tokyo, Japan, on Oct. 13, 2022.
SHM said it was aiming to develop a “Level 3 automated drive under limited conditions and to enable
Level 2+ driver assistance in even more situations such as urban driving.”
Five levels of driving automation have been defined by SAE International, an association made up
of technical experts and engineers. On its website, the SAE refers to Level 2 as providing “Partial
Driving Automation.”
At Level 3, automated driving features “can drive the vehicle under limited conditions and will not
operate unless all required conditions are met.” If asked to do so, drivers must take control of
Level 3 vehicles. The SAE says one example of Level 3 driving would be a “traffic jam chauffer.”
SHM said it would also look to explore “new entertainment possibilities through digital innovations
such as the metaverse.” Thursday’s announcement, which confirmed that SHM had now been
established, did not contain information related to the vehicle’s range or cost, but did state it would
be built at a Honda factory in North America.

In March 2022, the two firms signed a memorandum of understanding centered around a “strategic
alliance” in the field of mobility. In June, a joint venture agreement to set up Sony Honda Mobility
was signed.
In April, Honda said it planned to roll out 30 electric vehicle models worldwide by 2030. The
automotive powerhouse said it would be allocating roughly 5 trillion Japanese yen (around $33.9
billion) to electrification and what it called “software technologies.”
Honda’s electric vehicle plans put it in competition with firms such as Elon Musk’s Tesla as well as
companies like Volkswagen, Ford and Stellantis. In 2020, Sony showcased a prototype electric
car at a press event during CES 2020 in Las Vegas.
According to the International Energy Agency, electric vehicle sales are on course to hit an all-time
high this year.
EV ambitions
The news from Tokyo comes after Honda’s announcement in the U.S. that it would create an
electric-vehicle production hub in Ohio as it doubles down on an all-electric future. Those plans
include building a battery plant with its South Korean partner LG at a cost of $3.5 billion and
spending an additional $700 million to retool three plants in the state to make EVs.
Based in Tokyo, the 50-50 joint venture between Sony and Honda was announced earlier this year.
Izumi Kawanishi, a Sony executive vice president, is its COO. Mizuno comes from Honda. The
partners say Sony Honda Mobility will combine Honda’s expertise in engineering and manufacturing
vehicles, along with its proficiency in providing after-sales service, with Sony’s strengths in imaging,
sensing, telecommunications and entertainment.
Honda, in the midst of a radical corporate makeover, said in April it will invest 5 trillion yen ($37.16
billion) over the next 10 years in electrification as it rolls out 30 full electric vehicles globally and
builds production capacity for 2 million EVs annually by 2030. Honda wants to drop combustion and
shift to pure electric drivetrains by 2040.

Oman: Wärtsilä renews O&M deal with Musandam Power
TradeArabia News Service + NewBase
Wärtsilä, a global leader in innovative technologies and lifecycle solutions for the marine and energy
markets, said it has extended the operations and maintenance (O&M) agreement with Oman's
Musandam Power Company (MPC), for another three years.
A technology major headquartered in Helsinki, Finland, Wärtsilä had signed an O&M agreement
five years ago with MPC.
A 15-year long term service agreement was signed simultaneously with the engineering,
procurement, and construction contract in 2014, which has been complemented with Wärtsilä taking
responsibility for operating and maintaining the facility from 2017.
According to Wärtsilä, the extended O&M Agreement is part of the two active Wärtsilä service
agreements with MPC.
This extension will enable the Musandam Independent Power Plant (MIPP) to continue meeting all
its obligations under the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) it has with the Musandam isolated grid
authorities. It will also ensure a reliable electricity supply for local businesses.
The extension was signed and booked in Wärtsilä’s order intake in Q2 2022, stated the Finnish
group, adding that there is an option to further extend the agreement by two one-year extensions.
On its five years of O&M service, Wärtsilä said the plant’s exceptional reliability had enabled MPC
to achieve 100% of the contracted performance guarantees under its PPA.

This reliability has been achieved despite the challenging ambient conditions with summer
temperatures reaching 50 degrees C, when the demand for electricity is at its highest, it stated.
The 146 MW facility was delivered under a full engineering, procurement and construction contract
by Wärtsilä in 2017. It operates with 15 Wärtsilä 34DF engines operating on natural gas as the
primary fuel.
The Musandam isolated grid is entirely dependent on this one baseload plant. The local region is
rapidly developing economically and is a popular tourist area with a high demand for electricity. The
power plant is, therefore, required to be available on a 24/7 basis except for routine checks and
inspections, it added.
Alexandre Eykerman, Director, Middle East, Wärtsilä Energy, said the initial five-year agreement
was successfully completed with good cooperation from MPC.
"We have achieved 100% of the contracted performance guarantees towards MPC. We are very
proud to know that our good cooperation has enabled Musandam Independent Power Plant to meet
all performance guarantees under the PPA with the power purchaser Oman Power and Water
Procurement Company during this period," observed Eykerman.
Musandam Power Company CEO Murshid Al Yarubi said: "Electricity demand is expected to grow
during the period of the PPA, and a secure supply is essential for meeting Oman’s stringent grid
code."
"The Wärtsilä plant provides this reliability and availability, thanks both to the efficiency of the
engines and their professional operation and maintenance support. We value Wärtsilä as a partner
we can rely on and trust," he added.

Turkey backs Putin gas plan as Nord Stream faces long outage
Reuters + NewBase
Large sections of the damaged Nord Stream pipelines built to supply gas to Europe might need to
be replaced, the head of Gazprom said, while Turkey on Friday backed Russian proposals to build
a gas hub there as an alternative supply route.
Russian President Vladimir Putin this week proposed Turkey as a base for gas supplies after the
Nord Stream pipelines under the Baltic Sea were damaged last month by blasts.
The European Union, which previously turned to Russia for about 40% of its gas needs, is however
seeking to wean itself off Russian energy following the invasion of Ukraine in February.
Major EU importers such as Germany and Italy have found alterative sources and built up gas stocks
ahead of a winter that is likely to be tough because of sky-high energy prices and the fear of rationing
and power cuts.
Both Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2, connecting Russia and Germany, were damaged last
month, spewing out a large amount of gas. Russia and the West have blamed the damage on
sabotage but have not identified a culprit.
"Experts say that in order to restore work after such a terrorist act, it is necessary to actually cut off
a very large piece of pipe, at a great distance, and in fact build a new section on this section," Alexei
Miller, CEO of Russian gas company Gazprom, told Russia's state TV Channel One.
With Nord Stream out of service, Miller said that Russia will start "concrete" talks with Turkey next
week on proposals to route more gas their way. Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan has ordered the

energy ministry to work on building a hub following talks with Putin on the issue, NTV and other
local news channels reported.
SECURITY FEARS
The Nord Stream blasts have heightened concerns over energy security in Europe as the conflict
rages in Ukraine. Norwegian police on Friday investigated reports of a drone spotted flying over the
Kaarstoe gas processing plant in the southwest of the country in a potential violation of security
protocols.
Police also responded on Thursday to a threat made by telephone against the Nyhamna gas plant,
which alongside Kaarstoe and a handful of other Norwegian sites rank among Europe's largest
energy export facilities.
Norway is now Europe's largest gas supplier after a sharp reduction in flows from Russia. Seeking
to curb energy prices for consumers and industries, EU leaders may support plans to launch a new
gas price benchmark at a meeting next week, a draft document showed. The leaders are set to
meet on Oct. 20-21, days after the European Commission proposes measures to tackle the energy
crisis.
The benchmark for liquefied natural gas deliveries into Europe has historically been based on the
price at the Netherlands' Title Transfer Facility (TTF) hub. Brussels says a new index is needed
since the TTF is driven by pipeline supply and no longer represents a market that includes more
LNG.
It remains unclear if EU leaders will agree to a "temporary market intervention" - wording that could
refer to a gas price cap that has proved divisive. Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo warned
a unilateral cap on electricity prices called for by the national opposition could lead to power being
sold in other markets and blackouts in Belgium, the heart of the EU.
British shoppers are meanwhile responding to the risk of power cuts by stocking-up on portable
generators and torches, in addition to winter clothing, thermal underwear and candles.

Oil prices fall more than 3% on recession worries
Reuters + NewBase
Oil prices plummeted more than 3% on Friday as global recession fears and weak oil demand,
especially in China, outweighed support from a large cut to the OPEC+ supply target.
Brent crude futures dropped $2.94, or 3.1%, to settle at $91.63 a barrel, while U.S. West Texas
Intermediate (WTI) crude futures fell $3.50, or 3.9%, to $85.61.
The Brent and WTI contracts both oscillated between positive and negative territory for much of
Friday but fell for the week by 6.4% and 7.6%, respectively.
U.S. core inflation recorded its biggest annual increase in 40 years, reinforcing views that interest
rates would stay higher for longer with the risk of a global recession. The next U.S. interest rate
decision is due on Nov. 1-2.
U.S. consumer sentiment continued to improve steadily in October, but households' inflation
expectations deteriorated a bit, a survey showed.

The improvement in consumer sentiment "is being viewed as a negative because it means the Fed
needs to break the spirit of the consumers and slow the economy down more, and that's caused an
increase in the dollar and downward pressure on the oil market," said Phil Flynn, analyst at Price
Futures Group in Chicago.
The U.S. dollar index rose around 0.8%. A stronger dollar reduces demand for oil by making the
fuel more expensive for buyers using other currencies.

China, the world's largest crude oil importer, has been fighting COVID-19 flare-ups after a week-
long holiday. The country's infection tally is small by global standards, but it adheres to a zero-
COVID policy that is weighing heavily on economic activity and thus oil demand.
The International Energy Agency (IEA) on Thursday cut its oil demand forecast for this and next
year, warning of a potential global recession.
The market is still digesting a decision last week from the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting
Countries and allies, together known as OPEC+, when they announced a 2 million barrel per day
(bpd) cut to oil production targets.
Underproduction among the group means this will probably translate to a 1 million bpd cut, the IEA
estimates. Saudi Arabia and the United States have clashed over the decision.
Meanwhile, money managers raised their net long U.S. crude futures and options positions by
20,215 contracts to 194,780 in the week to Oct. 11, the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading
Commission (CFTC) said.
OPEC cuts 2022, 2023 oil demand growth view as economy slows

OPEC on Wednesday cut its 2022 forecast for growth in world oil demand for a fourth time since
April and also trimmed next year's figure, citing slowing economies, the resurgence of China's
COVID-19 containment measures and high inflation.
Oil demand will increase by 2.64 million barrels per day (bpd) or 2.7% in 2022, the Organization of
the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) said in a monthly report, down 460,000 bpd from the
previous forecast.
"The world economy has entered into a time of heightened uncertainty and rising challenges, amid
ongoing high inflation levels, monetary tightening by major central banks, high sovereign debt levels
in many regions as well as ongoing supply issues," OPEC said in the report.
The lower demand outlook gives additional context for last week's move by OPEC and its allies,
known as OPEC+, to make their largest cut in output since 2020 to support the market. The United
States criticized the decision. However, on Wednesday, the U.S. Energy Department also lowered
its expectations for global output and consumption in 2023.
Even after the downgrade, OPEC still expects demand growth to be stronger this year and next
than the International Energy Agency, which issues its latest forecasts on Thursday.
Next year, OPEC sees oil demand rising by 2.34 million bpd, 360,000 bpd less than previously
forecast, to 102.02 million bpd. OPEC still expects demand in 2023 to exceed the pre-pandemic
rate of 2019.
The U.S. Energy Department, by contrast, sees demand growing by 1.5% in 2023 to 101.03 million
bpd, down from 101.50 million bpd forecast last month. It also only expects a 0.8% increase in
production to 100.73 million bpd next year.
OPEC cut its 2022 global economic growth forecast to 2.7% from 3.1%, trimmed next year's figure
to 2.5% and said there was potential for further weakness.
"Major downside risks still exist," OPEC said, adding there was a limited upside potential from such
factors as fiscal measures in the European Union and China, and any resolution to the Ukraine war.
Oil prices, which have been weakening in response to fears about the economy, closed lower,
trading below $93 a barrel.
SUPPLY RISE
OPEC+ has for most of this year been ramping up oil output to unwind record cuts put in place in
2020 after the pandemic slashed demand. The group's decision for September 2022 called for a
100,000 bpd increase in its output target, of which about 64,000 bpd was meant to come from the
10 participating OPEC countries.
The report showed OPEC output rose by 146,000 bpd to 29.77 million bpd in September, led by
Saudi Arabia and Nigeria. Still, OPEC is pumping far less than called for by the OPEC+ agreement
due to under-investment in oilfields by some members.
OPEC expects world demand for its crude to average 29.4 million bpd next year, down 300,000 bpd
from last month and implying a surplus of 370,000 bpd should output continue at September's rate
and other things remain equal.
Still, the OPEC+ output cut agreed last week runs for all of 2023 and is much larger, at 2 million
bpd.

CLEAN ENERGY
Daily U.S. summer nuclear capacity outages were 19%
lower this summer than last summer
U.S. EIA, based on U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission data
Daily U.S. nuclear capacity outages averaged 2.5 gigawatts (GW) during the summer of 2022 (June
1 through August 31), nearly 19% lower than the 3.1 GW average in summer 2021. Summer nuclear
capacity outages were lowest in mid-August, averaging 1.0 GW, and highest in June, averaging 3.8
GW.
Nuclear power plants undergo planned outages, usually for maintenance and refueling, and
unplanned outages, which include weather-related disruptions and early retirements. U.S. nuclear
outages are usually at their lowest in summer and winter because electricity demand is highest
during these seasons and plant operators try to ensure plants are available to meet the increased
electricity demand.
A planned nuclear generation outage is usually scheduled to coincide with a plant’s refueling cycle.
U.S. nuclear power plants typically refuel every 18 to 24 months, mostly in fall and spring, when
electricity demand is lower. During a refueling outage, plants typically optimize downtime by
scheduling facility upgrades, repairs, and other maintenance work while the nuclear reactor is
offline.
As of October 4, the average planned refueling outage in 2022 lasted 38 days, compared with an
average of 30 days in 2021. The longer average refueling outage so far this year has mainly been
due to two planned refueling outages that lasted longer than expected. The longest-lasting planned
outages so far in 2022 have been at the Watts Bar and Fermi nuclear power plants.

Starting in March 2022, Watts Bar Unit 2 underwent a 121-day planned refueling outage, which also
included a steam generator replacement project. The outage was originally planned to be completed
in mid-May 2022; however, the outage lasted through June because of challenging weather
conditions and technical issues.
Fermi Unit 2 conducted a 93-day refueling and maintenance outage from February to May 2022.
The outage was delayed because the reactor automatically shut down before the scheduled
beginning of the outage, when a pump in the facility stopped working as expected.

Unplanned, or forced, nuclear generation outages can result from equipment failure, operational
error, or external circumstances such as severe weather. As of October 4, 24 unplanned nuclear
outages have occurred in 2022, compared with 51 in 2021.
Data source: U.S. Energy Information Administration, based on U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission data
We also classify early retirements as unplanned outages in the data. The early retirement of
Palisades Nuclear Plant in Michigan affected the amount of available nuclear capacity in summer
2022. The plant was retired in late May 2022, despite being licensed to operate through 2031, which
was a loss of about 770 GW of nuclear generating capacity.
Although Palisades was retired, it might reopen in the future. In September 2022, Michigan
Governor Gretchen Whitmer sent a letter to the U.S. Department of Energy supporting an
application for a federal grant to restart the Palisades facility. The letter is based on state concerns
about CO2 emissions, electricity reliability, and the local economy.
Our Status of Nuclear Outages webpage, which is based on data collected by the U.S. Nuclear
Regulatory Commission, provides daily operational information on each commercial U.S. nuclear
power reactor.
The Renaissance of Nuclear Power to Accommodate Net-Zero by 2050
Net-zero emissions by mid-century can be achieved by many routes, but none are easy, and none
are certain. One thing is clear: there needs to be an immediate, unprecedented acceleration in
deployment of existing technology this decade, be that renewable energy, heat pumps or electric
vehicles.
In the twenty years from 2030 to 2050, decarbonization needs to accelerate in harder-to-abate
sectors, and new technologies that complement clean power such as hydrogen, carbon capture and
storage, and small modular nuclear, have to be rolled out.
BloombergNEF’s New Energy Outlook 2021 describes three climate scenarios to meet net-zero
emissions and keep global average surface temperatures well below two degrees above pre-
industrial levels. The third of them, BloombergNEF’s Red Scenario, describes a pathway that is

dominated by clean power, and smaller, more modular, nuclear is deployed to complement wind,
solar and battery technology in the power sector, and so-called red hydrogen is manufactured using
nuclear power. Within the Red Scenario, the following solutions play a role in abating emissions in
line with the Paris Agreement:
Clean electricity accounts for 61% of emissions abatement to 2050. Of this, wind power makes up
41%, solar 20%, nuclear 26% and other zero-emissions power, including hydro, some 13%.
Greater electricity use in transport, buildings and industry account for 18% of the emissions
reductions to 2050. This includes a shift to electric vehicles, heat pumps and electric heating in
industrial manufacturing, particularly for lower-temperature processes.
There is also an important role for hydrogen in the end-use economy, where it accounts for a further
14% of total abatement to net-zero.
This includes hydrogen used to generate high-temperature heat in industrial processes such as
steel making, chemicals and cement, hydrogen used as fuel in transport, including aviation, shipping
and some road and rail transport, and hydrogen used in boilers for space and water heating.
Increased recycling and secondary manufacturing in industry accounts for 3%, and greater
bioenergy use, particularly in aviation, shipping and cement, account for a further 4%.

Nuclear power plays an important role in the Red Scenario to help reach net-zero emissions. With
an extended lifetime of 20 years for conventional nuclear plants, the introduction of small modular
nuclear reactors from the late 2020s and the production of red hydrogen via electrolysis, powered
by nuclear, leads to a nuclear renaissance, with just over 7,000GW of nuclear capacity installed by
2050.
Half of that is used to generate around 19,000TWh of electricity in the end-use economy.
The other half is used to power electrolyzers and manufacture so-called red hydrogen. This drives
uptake of nuclear fuel, which overtakes oil in 2034 as the dominant source of primary energy,
steadily increasing to 502EJ in 2050, up 17-fold from today.
BNEF doesn’t assume as much hydrogen production through electrolysis in its Red Scenario,
therefore the power sector sees the second-largest system between the Green and Gray
Scenarios. As nuclear power plays a dominant role in the power sector and it runs flat out most of
the year, its lack of flexibility means we see higher seasonal curtailment.
Nevertheless, as renewables are cheap, they still provide 39% of generation, of which 70% comes
from wind and 30% from PV. By 2050, utility-scale PV capacity tops 12.2TW and wind 9.6TW, while

batteries see the highest uptake, with 3.4TW, as higher flexibility is required in the Red Scenario to
complement nuclear power.
In addition to the relatively high cost of small modular nuclear reactor technology, and its being in
its infancy, there may also be other barriers in the Red Scenario associated with uranium resources
and nuclear waste.
Despite uranium being about as common as tin or zinc in the earth’s crust, concentrations need to
be high enough and the cost of extraction low enough for mining companies to invest. Rising
demand for uranium could put pressure on prices as supply through prevailing production methods
is estimated to last 90 years at current consumption rates.
Perhaps the biggest hurdle for our Red Scenario is nuclear waste. Researchers are still trying to
work out which long-term disposal option suits nuclear best as radioactivity lasts hundreds of years
and potential leaks through corrosion in the materials proposed for locking away the hazardous
waste could have large consequences for the environment.
Alternatively, if nuclear power can’t be considered an option for some countries in their long-term
energy strategy, they could put a higher emphasis on renewable energy or pursue carbon capture
and storage instead.

The contract, awarded by ADNOC Offshore, will support the expansion of ADNOC’s production capacity as it responds to the growing global demand for lower carbon intensity oil and gas. ADNOC Drilling is the largest national drilling company in the Middle East by rig fleet size and this award will leverage the company’s world-class expertise and state-of-the-art rig fleet to further unlock the UAE’s offshore energy resources. Over 80% of the award value will flow back into the UAE’s economy under ADNOC’s In-Country Value (ICV) program, supporting local economic growth and diversification. Page 2 Yaser Saeed Almazrouei, ADNOC Upstream Executive Director said: 'This award for the hire of jack-up rigs supports our ongoing efforts to responsibly unlock our lower carbon intensity oil and gas resources, alongside our strategic international partners, and contribute to global energy security. ADNOC Drilling’s world-class capabilities continues to be a key enabler of these efforts. Importantly, this award will also deliver significant in-country value to drive economic growth and diversification, in line with the UAE leadership’s wise directives.' This award brings the total value of awards from ADNOC Offshore to ADNOC Drilling in 2022 to $5.95 billion (AED21.84 billion) to maximize value from Abu Dhabi’s offshore oil and gas resources. In October, ADNOC Drilling was awarded a contract worth $1.52 billion (AED 5.58 billion) for the provision of jack-up and island rigs and associated Integrated Drilling Services. This followed two awards in August worth $3.43 billion (AED12.59 billion) to hire eight jack-up rigs. ADNOC Offshore is supporting ADNOC’s drive to expand production capacity to five million barrels per day (mbpd) by 2030 and enable gas self-sufficiency for the UAE, and ADNOC Drilling is a critical to delivering on these strategic objectives. ADNOC Drilling’s rig fleet spans 105 owned rigs, including 28 offshore jack-up units, one of the largest operational jack-up fleets in the world. The company’s expansive rig fleet and expertise are key drivers in its ability to win and service large-scale drilling contracts for customers such as ADNOC Offshore.

Page 3 U.S: Sony and Honda plan to start U.S. deliveries of E.V in 2026 CNBC + NewBase The Sony-Honda joint venture focused on electric vehicles plans to begin deliveries to the United States and Japan in 2026. Sony Honda Mobility, as it’s known, aims to start taking pre-orders for its vehicle in the first half of 2025, and hopes to start sales before the end of that year. “For sales, SHM plans to focus on online sales,” a statement released Thursday said. U.S. deliveries are slated to start in the spring of 2026, with deliveries to the Japanese market happening in the latter half of the same year. Yasuhide Mizuno, the chairman and CEO of Sony Honda Mobility Inc., speaks during a news conference in Tokyo, Japan, on Oct. 13, 2022. SHM said it was aiming to develop a “Level 3 automated drive under limited conditions and to enable Level 2+ driver assistance in even more situations such as urban driving.” Five levels of driving automation have been defined by SAE International, an association made up of technical experts and engineers. On its website, the SAE refers to Level 2 as providing “Partial Driving Automation.” At Level 3, automated driving features “can drive the vehicle under limited conditions and will not operate unless all required conditions are met.” If asked to do so, drivers must take control of Level 3 vehicles. The SAE says one example of Level 3 driving would be a “traffic jam chauffer.” SHM said it would also look to explore “new entertainment possibilities through digital innovations such as the metaverse.” Thursday’s announcement, which confirmed that SHM had now been established, did not contain information related to the vehicle’s range or cost, but did state it would be built at a Honda factory in North America.  Sony Honda Mobility aims to start taking pre-orders for its vehicle in the first half of 2025.  SHM says it will look to explore “new entertainment possibilities through digital innovations such as the metaverse.”  According to the International Energy Agency, electric vehicle sales are on course to hit an all- time high this year.

Page 4 In March 2022, the two firms signed a memorandum of understanding centered around a “strategic alliance” in the field of mobility. In June, a joint venture agreement to set up Sony Honda Mobility was signed. In April, Honda said it planned to roll out 30 electric vehicle models worldwide by 2030. The automotive powerhouse said it would be allocating roughly 5 trillion Japanese yen (around $33.9 billion) to electrification and what it called “software technologies.” Honda’s electric vehicle plans put it in competition with firms such as Elon Musk’s Tesla as well as companies like Volkswagen, Ford and Stellantis. In 2020, Sony showcased a prototype electric car at a press event during CES 2020 in Las Vegas. According to the International Energy Agency, electric vehicle sales are on course to hit an all-time high this year. EV ambitions The news from Tokyo comes after Honda’s announcement in the U.S. that it would create an electric-vehicle production hub in Ohio as it doubles down on an all-electric future. Those plans include building a battery plant with its South Korean partner LG at a cost of $3.5 billion and spending an additional $700 million to retool three plants in the state to make EVs. Based in Tokyo, the 50-50 joint venture between Sony and Honda was announced earlier this year. Izumi Kawanishi, a Sony executive vice president, is its COO. Mizuno comes from Honda. The partners say Sony Honda Mobility will combine Honda’s expertise in engineering and manufacturing vehicles, along with its proficiency in providing after-sales service, with Sony’s strengths in imaging, sensing, telecommunications and entertainment. Honda, in the midst of a radical corporate makeover, said in April it will invest 5 trillion yen ($37.16 billion) over the next 10 years in electrification as it rolls out 30 full electric vehicles globally and builds production capacity for 2 million EVs annually by 2030. Honda wants to drop combustion and shift to pure electric drivetrains by 2040.

Page 5 Oman: Wärtsilä renews O&M deal with Musandam Power TradeArabia News Service + NewBase Wärtsilä, a global leader in innovative technologies and lifecycle solutions for the marine and energy markets, said it has extended the operations and maintenance (O&M) agreement with Oman's Musandam Power Company (MPC), for another three years. A technology major headquartered in Helsinki, Finland, Wärtsilä had signed an O&M agreement five years ago with MPC. A 15-year long term service agreement was signed simultaneously with the engineering, procurement, and construction contract in 2014, which has been complemented with Wärtsilä taking responsibility for operating and maintaining the facility from 2017. According to Wärtsilä, the extended O&M Agreement is part of the two active Wärtsilä service agreements with MPC. This extension will enable the Musandam Independent Power Plant (MIPP) to continue meeting all its obligations under the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) it has with the Musandam isolated grid authorities. It will also ensure a reliable electricity supply for local businesses. The extension was signed and booked in Wärtsilä’s order intake in Q2 2022, stated the Finnish group, adding that there is an option to further extend the agreement by two one-year extensions. On its five years of O&M service, Wärtsilä said the plant’s exceptional reliability had enabled MPC to achieve 100% of the contracted performance guarantees under its PPA.

Page 6 This reliability has been achieved despite the challenging ambient conditions with summer temperatures reaching 50 degrees C, when the demand for electricity is at its highest, it stated. The 146 MW facility was delivered under a full engineering, procurement and construction contract by Wärtsilä in 2017. It operates with 15 Wärtsilä 34DF engines operating on natural gas as the primary fuel. The Musandam isolated grid is entirely dependent on this one baseload plant. The local region is rapidly developing economically and is a popular tourist area with a high demand for electricity. The power plant is, therefore, required to be available on a 24/7 basis except for routine checks and inspections, it added. Alexandre Eykerman, Director, Middle East, Wärtsilä Energy, said the initial five-year agreement was successfully completed with good cooperation from MPC. "We have achieved 100% of the contracted performance guarantees towards MPC. We are very proud to know that our good cooperation has enabled Musandam Independent Power Plant to meet all performance guarantees under the PPA with the power purchaser Oman Power and Water Procurement Company during this period," observed Eykerman. Musandam Power Company CEO Murshid Al Yarubi said: "Electricity demand is expected to grow during the period of the PPA, and a secure supply is essential for meeting Oman’s stringent grid code." "The Wärtsilä plant provides this reliability and availability, thanks both to the efficiency of the engines and their professional operation and maintenance support. We value Wärtsilä as a partner we can rely on and trust," he added.

Page 7 Turkey backs Putin gas plan as Nord Stream faces long outage Reuters + NewBase Large sections of the damaged Nord Stream pipelines built to supply gas to Europe might need to be replaced, the head of Gazprom said, while Turkey on Friday backed Russian proposals to build a gas hub there as an alternative supply route. Russian President Vladimir Putin this week proposed Turkey as a base for gas supplies after the Nord Stream pipelines under the Baltic Sea were damaged last month by blasts. The European Union, which previously turned to Russia for about 40% of its gas needs, is however seeking to wean itself off Russian energy following the invasion of Ukraine in February. Major EU importers such as Germany and Italy have found alterative sources and built up gas stocks ahead of a winter that is likely to be tough because of sky-high energy prices and the fear of rationing and power cuts. Both Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2, connecting Russia and Germany, were damaged last month, spewing out a large amount of gas. Russia and the West have blamed the damage on sabotage but have not identified a culprit. "Experts say that in order to restore work after such a terrorist act, it is necessary to actually cut off a very large piece of pipe, at a great distance, and in fact build a new section on this section," Alexei Miller, CEO of Russian gas company Gazprom, told Russia's state TV Channel One. With Nord Stream out of service, Miller said that Russia will start "concrete" talks with Turkey next week on proposals to route more gas their way. Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan has ordered the

Page 8 energy ministry to work on building a hub following talks with Putin on the issue, NTV and other local news channels reported. SECURITY FEARS The Nord Stream blasts have heightened concerns over energy security in Europe as the conflict rages in Ukraine. Norwegian police on Friday investigated reports of a drone spotted flying over the Kaarstoe gas processing plant in the southwest of the country in a potential violation of security protocols. Police also responded on Thursday to a threat made by telephone against the Nyhamna gas plant, which alongside Kaarstoe and a handful of other Norwegian sites rank among Europe's largest energy export facilities. Norway is now Europe's largest gas supplier after a sharp reduction in flows from Russia. Seeking to curb energy prices for consumers and industries, EU leaders may support plans to launch a new gas price benchmark at a meeting next week, a draft document showed. The leaders are set to meet on Oct. 20-21, days after the European Commission proposes measures to tackle the energy crisis. The benchmark for liquefied natural gas deliveries into Europe has historically been based on the price at the Netherlands' Title Transfer Facility (TTF) hub. Brussels says a new index is needed since the TTF is driven by pipeline supply and no longer represents a market that includes more LNG. It remains unclear if EU leaders will agree to a "temporary market intervention" - wording that could refer to a gas price cap that has proved divisive. Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo warned a unilateral cap on electricity prices called for by the national opposition could lead to power being sold in other markets and blackouts in Belgium, the heart of the EU. British shoppers are meanwhile responding to the risk of power cuts by stocking-up on portable generators and torches, in addition to winter clothing, thermal underwear and candles.

Brent crude futures dropped $2.94, or 3.1%, to settle at $91.63 a barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures fell $3.50, or 3.9%, to $85.61. The Brent and WTI contracts both oscillated between positive and negative territory for much of Friday but fell for the week by 6.4% and 7.6%, respectively. U.S. core inflation recorded its biggest annual increase in 40 years, reinforcing views that interest rates would stay higher for longer with the risk of a global recession. The next U.S. interest rate decision is due on Nov. 1-2. U.S. consumer sentiment continued to improve steadily in October, but households' inflation expectations deteriorated a bit, a survey showed. The U.S. dollar index rose around 0.8%. A stronger dollar reduces demand for oil by making the fuel more expensive for buyers using other currencies. The country's infection tally is small by global standards, but it adheres to a zero- COVID policy that is weighing heavily on economic activity and thus oil demand. The International Energy Agency (IEA) on Thursday cut its oil demand forecast for this and next year, warning of a potential global recession. The market is still digesting a decision last week from the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and allies, together known as OPEC+, when they announced a 2 million barrel per day (bpd) cut to oil production targets. Underproduction among the group means this will probably translate to a 1 million bpd cut, the IEA estimates. Saudi Arabia and the United States have clashed over the decision. Page 11 OPEC on Wednesday cut its 2022 forecast for growth in world oil demand for a fourth time since April and also trimmed next year's figure, citing slowing economies, the resurgence of China's COVID-19 containment measures and high inflation. Oil demand will increase by 2.64 million barrels per day (bpd) or 2.7% in 2022, the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) said in a monthly report, down 460,000 bpd from the previous forecast. "The world economy has entered into a time of heightened uncertainty and rising challenges, amid ongoing high inflation levels, monetary tightening by major central banks, high sovereign debt levels in many regions as well as ongoing supply issues," OPEC said in the report. The lower demand outlook gives additional context for last week's move by OPEC and its allies, known as OPEC+, to make their largest cut in output since 2020 to support the market. The United States criticized the decision. However, on Wednesday, the U.S. Energy Department also lowered its expectations for global output and consumption in 2023. Even after the downgrade, OPEC still expects demand growth to be stronger this year and next than the International Energy Agency, which issues its latest forecasts on Thursday. Next year, OPEC sees oil demand rising by 2.34 million bpd, 360,000 bpd less than previously forecast, to 102.02 million bpd. OPEC still expects demand in 2023 to exceed the pre-pandemic rate of 2019. The U.S. Energy Department, by contrast, sees demand growing by 1.5% in 2023 to 101.03 million bpd, down from 101.50 million bpd forecast last month. It also only expects a 0.8% increase in production to 100.73 million bpd next year. OPEC cut its 2022 global economic growth forecast to 2.7% from 3.1%, trimmed next year's figure to 2.5% and said there was potential for further weakness. "Major downside risks still exist," OPEC said, adding there was a limited upside potential from such factors as fiscal measures in the European Union and China, and any resolution to the Ukraine war. Oil prices, which have been weakening in response to fears about the economy, closed lower, trading below $93 a barrel. SUPPLY RISE OPEC+ has for most of this year been ramping up oil output to unwind record cuts put in place in 2020 after the pandemic slashed demand. The group's decision for September 2022 called for a 100,000 bpd increase in its output target, of which about 64,000 bpd was meant to come from the 10 participating OPEC countries. The report showed OPEC output rose by 146,000 bpd to 29.77 million bpd in September, led by Saudi Arabia and Nigeria. Still, OPEC is pumping far less than called for by the OPEC+ agreement due to under-investment in oilfields by some members. OPEC expects world demand for its crude to average 29.4 million bpd next year, down 300,000 bpd from last month and implying a surplus of 370,000 bpd should output continue at September's rate and other things remain equal. Still, the OPEC+ output cut agreed last week runs for all of 2023 and is much larger, at 2 million bpd.

Page 12 NewBase Specual Coverage The Energy world –October -16 -2022 CLEAN ENERGY Daily U.S. summer nuclear capacity outages were 19% lower this summer than last summer U.S. EIA, based on U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission data Daily U.S. nuclear capacity outages averaged 2.5 gigawatts (GW) during the summer of 2022 (June 1 through August 31), nearly 19% lower than the 3.1 GW average in summer 2021. Summer nuclear capacity outages were lowest in mid-August, averaging 1.0 GW, and highest in June, averaging 3.8 GW. Nuclear power plants undergo planned outages, usually for maintenance and refueling, and unplanned outages, which include weather-related disruptions and early retirements. U.S. nuclear outages are usually at their lowest in summer and winter because electricity demand is highest during these seasons and plant operators try to ensure plants are available to meet the increased electricity demand. A planned nuclear generation outage is usually scheduled to coincide with a plant’s refueling cycle. U.S. nuclear power plants typically refuel every 18 to 24 months, mostly in fall and spring, when electricity demand is lower. During a refueling outage, plants typically optimize downtime by scheduling facility upgrades, repairs, and other maintenance work while the nuclear reactor is offline. As of October 4, the average planned refueling outage in 2022 lasted 38 days, compared with an average of 30 days in 2021. The longer average refueling outage so far this year has mainly been due to two planned refueling outages that lasted longer than expected. The longest-lasting planned outages so far in 2022 have been at the Watts Bar and Fermi nuclear power plants.

Data source: U.S. Energy Information Administration, based on U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission data We also classify early retirements as unplanned outages in the data. The early retirement of Palisades Nuclear Plant in Michigan affected the amount of available nuclear capacity in summer 2022. The plant was retired in late May 2022, despite being licensed to operate through 2031, which was a loss of about 770 GW of nuclear generating capacity. Although Palisades was retired, it might reopen in the future. In September 2022, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer sent a letter to the U.S. Department of Energy supporting an application for a federal grant to restart the Palisades facility. The letter is based on state concerns about CO2 emissions, electricity reliability, and the local economy. Our Status of Nuclear Outages webpage, which is based on data collected by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, provides daily operational information on each commercial U.S. nuclear power reactor. The Renaissance of Nuclear Power to Accommodate Net-Zero by 2050 Net-zero emissions by mid-century can be achieved by many routes, but none are easy, and none are certain. One thing is clear: there needs to be an immediate, unprecedented acceleration in deployment of existing technology this decade, be that renewable energy, heat pumps or electric vehicles. In the twenty years from 2030 to 2050, decarbonization needs to accelerate in harder-to-abate sectors, and new technologies that complement clean power such as hydrogen, carbon capture and storage, and small modular nuclear, have to be rolled out. BloombergNEF’s New Energy Outlook 2021 describes three climate scenarios to meet net-zero emissions and keep global average surface temperatures well below two degrees above pre- industrial levels. The third of them, BloombergNEF’s Red Scenario, describes a pathway that is

Page 15 dominated by clean power, and smaller, more modular, nuclear is deployed to complement wind, solar and battery technology in the power sector, and so-called red hydrogen is manufactured using nuclear power. Within the Red Scenario, the following solutions play a role in abating emissions in line with the Paris Agreement: Clean electricity accounts for 61% of emissions abatement to 2050. Of this, wind power makes up 41%, solar 20%, nuclear 26% and other zero-emissions power, including hydro, some 13%. Greater electricity use in transport, buildings and industry account for 18% of the emissions reductions to 2050. This includes a shift to electric vehicles, heat pumps and electric heating in industrial manufacturing, particularly for lower-temperature processes. There is also an important role for hydrogen in the end-use economy, where it accounts for a further 14% of total abatement to net-zero. This includes hydrogen used to generate high-temperature heat in industrial processes such as steel making, chemicals and cement, hydrogen used as fuel in transport, including aviation, shipping and some road and rail transport, and hydrogen used in boilers for space and water heating. Increased recycling and secondary manufacturing in industry accounts for 3%, and greater bioenergy use, particularly in aviation, shipping and cement, account for a further 4%.

Page 16 Nuclear power plays an important role in the Red Scenario to help reach net-zero emissions. With an extended lifetime of 20 years for conventional nuclear plants, the introduction of small modular nuclear reactors from the late 2020s and the production of red hydrogen via electrolysis, powered by nuclear, leads to a nuclear renaissance, with just over 7,000GW of nuclear capacity installed by 2050. Half of that is used to generate around 19,000TWh of electricity in the end-use economy. The other half is used to power electrolyzers and manufacture so-called red hydrogen. This drives uptake of nuclear fuel, which overtakes oil in 2034 as the dominant source of primary energy, steadily increasing to 502EJ in 2050, up 17-fold from today. BNEF doesn’t assume as much hydrogen production through electrolysis in its Red Scenario, therefore the power sector sees the second-largest system between the Green and Gray Scenarios. As nuclear power plays a dominant role in the power sector and it runs flat out most of the year, its lack of flexibility means we see higher seasonal curtailment. Nevertheless, as renewables are cheap, they still provide 39% of generation, of which 70% comes from wind and 30% from PV. By 2050, utility-scale PV capacity tops 12.2TW and wind 9.6TW, while

Page 17 batteries see the highest uptake, with 3.4TW, as higher flexibility is required in the Red Scenario to complement nuclear power. In addition to the relatively high cost of small modular nuclear reactor technology, and its being in its infancy, there may also be other barriers in the Red Scenario associated with uranium resources and nuclear waste. Despite uranium being about as common as tin or zinc in the earth’s crust, concentrations need to be high enough and the cost of extraction low enough for mining companies to invest. Rising demand for uranium could put pressure on prices as supply through prevailing production methods is estimated to last 90 years at current consumption rates. Perhaps the biggest hurdle for our Red Scenario is nuclear waste. Researchers are still trying to work out which long-term disposal option suits nuclear best as radioactivity lasts hundreds of years and potential leaks through corrosion in the materials proposed for locking away the hazardous waste could have large consequences for the environment. Alternatively, if nuclear power can’t be considered an option for some countries in their long-term energy strategy, they could put a higher emphasis on renewable energy or pursue carbon capture and storage instead.
