WHAT IS ASSESSMENT AND EVALUATION
● Assessment refers to the process of gathering and synthesizing
information of students from multiple sources.
● Evaluation is a process that critically examines a program, it assess
value, worth or quality of student’s outcome.
TRADITIONAL FORM OF ASSESSMENT
The traditional method of assessment in education typically involves
tests, quizzes and exams where students answer questions on paper.
Can provide valuable insights into a students performance, they may
not always capture the full range of students abilities and skills.
NEW TRENDS IN ASSESSMENT AND EVALUATION
The improved quality of learning, programmes and education system.
THE FEATURES OF NEW TRENDS OF ASSESSMENT AND
EVALUATION
❖ Adaptive testing
❖ Real world application
❖ Continuous assessment
❖ Interactive elements
NEW TRENDS IN ASSESSMENT AND EVALUATION
Online Examination
Computer Based
Examination
❖ It is mainly referred to as
e-examination, conducted
through the internet or in
an intranet.
❖ In computer based examination
(CBE), computer technology is use.
Employs computers to answer
questions presented on the monitor.
OBJECTIVES OF NEW TRENDS IN ASSESSMENT AND
EVALUATION
1. Enhance Accessibility.
2. Improve Efficiency.
3. Foster Adaptability.
4. Enhance Security.
5. Holistic Approach.
Meaning of online examination
Online Examination System is a comprehensive part of school
management software. It provides a digital platform where
educational institutions can seamlessly administer exams to
multiple students simultaneously, without the constraints of
physical exam halls or printed question papers.
Advantages of Online Examination
1. Environment friendly
2. Cost effective
3. No transportation problems
4. Time management
5. Secured
6. Immediate result and feedback
Disadvantage of Online Examination
1. Lack of creativity
2. Susceptible to malpractices like cheating &
plagiarism
3. Internet dependency
4. Great demand for computer literacy
5. Infrastructure barriers
6. Difficulty in grading long answer-type
COMPUTER BASED EXAMINATION
● A Computer Based Examination (CBE) is a test or
assessment that is conducted by using a computer, typically
in a controlled environment like a testing centre or a
classroom.
● Instead of traditional pen-and-paper methods, candidates
interact with the exam questions and submit their answers
using a computer interface.
TYPES OF QUESTION FORMATS IN A CBE
● Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs): Candidates
select the correct answer from a list of options
provided.
● True or False: Candidates indicate whether
statements are true or false.
● Fill-in-the-Blank: Candidates type their answers
directly into the blank space provided.
● Matching: Candidates match items from one
column to corresponding items in another column.
● Short Answer: Candidates provide brief written responses to
questions, typically in a few sentences or less.
● Essay or Long Answer: Candidates compose longer written
responses to questions, often requiring more detailed explanations or
analysis.
● Drag and Drop: Candidates arrange items or elements by dragging
them to the appropriate locations on the screen.
● Mathematical or Numeric Input: Candidates input numerical values
or mathematical equations directly into the exam interface.
● Audio-Video Based Questions: Candidates listen to audio clips or
watch video segments and answer related questions.
STEPS INVOLVED IN CONDUCTING A CBE
ADVANTAGES OF A CBE
1.Instant Feedback
2.Remote Accessibility
3.Environment Friendly
4.Digital Literacy Development
5.Requires Less Manpower
6.Enhanced Security
DISADVANTAGES OF A CBE
1.Technical Issues
2.Digital Divide
3.Infrastructure Requirement
4.Cost of Implementation
5.Disruption to Traditional Practices
6.Standardization Challenges
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ONLINE EXAMINATION AND
COMPUTER BASED EXAMINATION
ONLINE EXAM COMPUTER BASED EXAM
1.It can be access remotely via
internet from various location.
2.It can be administered remotely
through specialized software and
platform via internet.
1.It takes place in a controlled
environment where participant
use computer provided on-site.
2.It involve physical supervision
and proctoring within the testing
centre.
3. It has a more rigid scheduled
and a location is required due to the
need for physical testing centers.
4. Computer based exam requires
infrastructure such as testing
centers equipped with computer ,
network connectivity and power
supply.
5. Computer based exam benefits
from physical supervision and
proctoring.
ONLINE EXAM COMPUTER BASED EXAM
3. It is more flexible in terms of
scheduling and location ,allowing
participant to take exam at their
convenience from anywhere.
4. Less infrastructure is required as it
rely heavily on internet connectivity
which include special electronic
devices.
5. Online exams may face additional
challenges in ensuring the integrity of
the exam environment remotely.
GOVERNMENT INITIATIVES TO PROMOTE ONLINE
EDUCATION
❖ VidyaDaan: With the objective to seek donations and contributions for
the digital education resources for the school from educational
institutions, private players, and individuals, VidyaDaan was launched
in April 2020. Assam, Goa, Kerala, Odisha, U.P, Punjab, Maharashtra,
Gujarat, Telangana, and Chandigarh along with the CBSE and
NCERT are working efficiently on VidyaDaan to source content on
DIKSHA.
❖ DIKSHA: Digital Infrastructure for knowledge sharing was initiated in
2017 with the dream of ‘One Nation, One Digital Platform’. DIKSHA is
national platform for grades 1 to 12 and can be operated through a
web portal or mobile app. It includes e-content respective to the
curriculum with the assignments and courses for educators as well.
 SWAYAM Prabha T.V: This initiative include 32 channels that focus on
educational programs with the objective of ‘One Class, One Channel’. For
asynchronous usage by anyone, anytime and anywhere, the curriculum and
topics are organized similarly on DIKSHA. It has a tie-up with Tata Sky and
Airtel to air and telecast the educational programs.
 PM E-Vidhya: It is comprehensive program announced on 17 May 2020,
with the objective to unify digital and online education with the education
programs for better reach and access to E-learning. It targeted almost 25 crore
school students across the country.
 E-Pathshala: This initiative focus not only on students but also teachers and
parents. E-Pathshala can be accessed through a web portal or mobile app for
the e-textbooks, which have contents of English, Sanskrit, Urdu and Hindi. To
ensure e-learning, the government of India is dedicated to transforming and
covering the level of education for all students in the remote
extensions of the country by supporting them digitally and
technically to attain education with just a single click over the
digital tools.
❖ NEW EDUCATION POLICY 2020: Digital education is a key
aspect of the NEP2020, with a focus on developing digital literacy,
critical thinking and problem solving skills among students. This
policies gives importance in providing equal educational
opportunities and emphasises the need for investment in digital
infrastructure and teacher training. This policy also state the
integration of digital education in the curriculum in a phased
manner, starting from the primary level.

Conclusion
● Online Examination (OE) and Computer-Based Examination (CBE)
represent innovative advancements in assessment and evaluation.
● These methods offer flexibility, accessibility, and efficiency compared
to traditional approaches.
● While they present challenges such as security concerns and technical
issues, their benefits outweigh the drawbacks.
● The role of the teacher remains pivotal in ensuring the successful
implementation and ethical conduct of OE and CBE.
● OE and CBE pave the way for a more equitable, efficient, and learner-
centered approach to assessment in the digital age.
Thank You Everyone
