3. INTRODUCTION
The project TuSomeCBC application system includes access of learning materials by
students, access of school calendar and syllabus coverage by parents and access of
teaching guides and teaching materials by teachers.
The TuSomeCBC application system can be accessed by using an email and password.
It is accessible by either student, teacher, parent, or the Ministry of Education.
The application consist of 4 modules:
1) Student module
2) Parent module
3) Teacher module
4) Ministry of Education (MoE) module
4. PROBLEM STATEMENT
In many primary schools especially those in rural areas, headteachers force parents to
pay for learning materials that are yet provided by the government for free.
Insufficient teaching materials in schools where teachers do not have teaching guides
and schemes of showing them what they are supposed to teach and at what time.
Increased costs of parents buying learning materials for their kids during holidays even
without knowing whether they are relevant or not.
The need of parents to monitor their children learning progress and inadequate
knowledge of parents on what their kids are supposed to be taught in a term or per
week.
5. Functionality
1. Student module
Register details
Access learning materials
2. Teacher module
Access teaching materials
Access announcement from the Ministry of Education
View school calendar and syllabus coverage
3. Parent module
Access school calendar and announcements from the Ministry
Monitor student learning progress.
4. Ministry of Education module
Login
Uploads learning materials to the respective grade, school calendar, announcements, syllabus coverage and teaching materials.
6. OBJECTIVES
1. To eradicate computer illiteracy amongst the pupils right from their lower primary level of
education.
2. To increase the teacher-pupil-parent contact in which the pupils are able to connect with their
teacher even while at home and be able to learn and parent can assist them.
3. Improve the productivity and improvement in learning as learning materials will be
abundant, accessible anywhere at any time.
4. To give a few ideas and suggestions for the accomplishment of online method of getting the
hang of during an emergency like circumstance, where there is no need of physical learning.
5. To minimize the cost at which parent incur for their children buying materials during
holidays.
7. SIGNIFICANCE/PURPOSE
The TuSomeCBC application will be used by the CBC students, teachers and parents.
Students will use the system to access learning materials depending on their grade and subject of interest.
The application will help students to obtain referencing materials for their assignments while at home.
Implementation of this application system in learning institution will highly boost the performance of
students since they will be highly equipped with what it takes for them to be people who can solve the
prevailing problems in the society.
The platform will expose students at early levels of learning with using computerized devices and hence
to give them a good ground to be able to research on their academic materials from the internet.
The use of this application system will help parents to monitor the learning progress of their children
since they have a referencing curriculum from the ministry.
TuSomeCBC application will provide teachers with teaching guides which will enable them to improve
the student performance and coverage of the syllabus at the stipulated time.
8. JUSTIFICATION
1. A requirement in our studies
It is a task that we have to accomplish in order to acquire our degree certificate in the
University of Eldoret.
1. Cause an improvement in the education sector
Through this platform, we strongly do believe that the pupils will be well equipped and have
what it takes to be able to solve problems which are facing the society.
1. Enhance learning by enabling students to continue learning beyond the four walls of the
classrooms.
2. The parent need in involvement over their children’s learning and performance.
15. METHODOLOGY
To decide on the appropriate methodology for our project, we considered the factors such as;
1. The requirements for the project.
2. The users.
3. Development team
4. The expected end product of the project.
5. Feedback on the work done.
6. Cost of the whole project
7. Project size.
We choose iterative waterfall model as the best methodology to use in our project.
16. Iterative waterfall model
Iterative waterfall model has usable products that are released at the end of each cycle and has the feedback paths. The
feedback paths make the model realistic. It enables for correction of programming errors that were made at a previous
stage when they are discovered.
In iterative waterfall model, next phase can only begin when the previous phase is completed as waterfall model.
The phases of iterative waterfall model includes;
1. Requirement Analysis
2. Feasibility Study
3. Software Design
4. Coding and Implementation
5. Software Testing
6. Software Deployment
7. Software Maintenance
21. CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION
Since all learning materials and teaching materials will be provided by the Ministry,
student performance will be highly increased. All teachers and parents will be aware of
the school curriculum hence the school administration will be able to plan its activities
appropriately. Also, the TuSomeCBC application brings together student, parent and
teacher by providing each with appropriate information about education thus helping
parents to monitor their children learning progress and be involved in learning process
of their kids.
22. Recommendation
We hereby recommend that the stakeholders in the education sector to embrace this
technology in learning to be able to reach the pupils even when not around their
teachers and help parents know what their kids are supposed to learn but not just paying
school fees.
