The course assessment for Higher History consists of two components: a question paper worth 60 marks and an assignment worth 30 marks. The question paper includes three sections covering Scottish history, British history, and European/world history. Each section contains source-based questions assessing the usefulness of sources, how sources address issues, and comparing views across sources. The assignment requires students to research and investigate a historical issue, analyzing causes and impacts using sources. Students will draw on knowledge to structure an argument and reach a well-reasoned conclusion. The question paper is set and marked by SQA, while the extended essay is supervised by the teacher but sent to SQA for final marking.
