Plastic Waste:
How can you make something disposable that’s indestructible?
• The 'canary in the coal mine' is now the Albatross & fish ~ we need to stop
polluting land/ocean and responsibly handle our waste…
• Death by plastic: Albatross Fish also ingest
carcasses reveal a deadly diet. plastic…
We can’t get out of low gear with recycling plastics…
Plastic Recycling in the USA 2008
Source: 2008 United States National Post-Consumer Plastics
Bottle Recycling Report
At the height of the waste tire problem in the US, in
1990, there were 1 Billion waste tires in stockpiles
across our country, and the number has been
steadily decreasing, thanks in part to the RCC
Scrap tire workgroup.
RCC Scrap Tire Workgroup consisted of 80 individuals from Federal, State, Industry,
& Academia whose goal was to prevent pollution, promote reuse & recycling, conserve
energy & materials.
We have a 2x larger problem
with plastics, you just don’t
see it, as you did with tire
piles.
• Manufacturing jobs have dropped
to their lowest level since 1941,
below 9% of workforce for the first
time.
• We believe we need to get back to
manufacturing in the USA, and
support these manufacturers by
purchasing and using their recycled
products.
A “perfect marriage” between
municipal county MRF and
local manufacturer.
Recycled plastics can be turned into Plastic Wood
Fencing, compost bins, raised gardens, furniture, etc.
Impacts of Buying
US Made Recycled Products
 Investing in American made products creates jobs
 Sets a good example & helps our economy
 Long-term economic and environmental benefits.
What better raw material to use than our waste
materials transformed into a valuable resource ~ in
nature there is no waste.
Leave less of a footprint on the earth…
