What is a Network?
A network is a collection of computers and related
equipment (printers, webcams, game consoles,
etc.) connected so that data can move between
them. Even if you have a single computer, it looks
to the Internet as part of a network. The Internet,
then, is a network of networks.
What is a Network?
A network or rather a Computer
Network is a collection of devices
connected through a medium such as
a Router to communicate and share
resources.
What is a Network?
Computer Networks are usually connected by
physical cables such as Ethernet cords or
maintain wireless connections. IP Addresses
are how devices identify each other on the
network.
Personal Area Network (PAN)
Personal Area Network (PAN)
is a computer network used for
communication among computer devices,
including smartphone and tablet, in proximity
to an individual's body. The reach of a PAN is
typically a few meters. PANs can be used for
communication among the personal devices
themselves (intrapersonal communication), or
for connecting to a higher level network and
the Internet. Using Lenovo ShareIt app across
devices is great instance of PAN network.
Local Area Network- the smallest of the three
network types, consist of PCs connected together
within a limited area, such as within the same building,
floor or department.

Metropolitan Area Network – are network
that spans no more than 50 miles. It is design
to connect LANs spanning a town or city

Wide Area Network – used to
distribute information thousands of
miles among thousands of users.

the devices
Activity 2
Router
A device that forwards data packets along networks.
Routers enable computers to communicate and they
can pass information between two networks—such
as between your home network and the Internet
Hubs
Hubs enable computers on a network to communicate.
Each computer plugs into the hub with an Ethernet
cable, and information sent from one computer to
another passes through the hub.
Switch A device that filters and forwards packets
between LAN segments.
WAP Wireless Access Point
A device that allows other Wi-Fi devices to
connect to a wired network.

MODEM A device that converts data into a format
suitable for a transmission medium so that it
can be transmitted from one computer to
another.
Patch
Panel
A bundle multiple network ports together to
connect incoming and outgoing lines including
those for local area networks, electronics,
electrical systems and communications.
Types of Devices used in a Network
End Devices
Servers, Desktop
Computers, Laptops,
Tablets, & Smart Phones
are examples of the end
devices that serve as an
interface between the
end user and the
network.
Network Devices
Routers, Modems,
Switches, Wireless Access
Points, Cell Towers are
network devices that are
the medium that end
devices use to connect to
other end devices on other
networks.
