An interconnection of two or more computers is called a network. There are several types of networks including local area networks (LANs), metropolitan area networks (MANs), and wide area networks (WANs). LANs connect computers within a distinct geographic area like an office. MANs span an entire city or campus by connecting multiple LANs. WANs extend over large geographical distances often using leased telecommunication circuits.
