Nestlé's 150 European factories will send zero food waste to landfill by 2020. Sending zero waste to landfill in the UK by 2020 could result in household savings of £12 billion, public sector savings of £3.7 billion, over 1.1 terawatt hours of energy produced from waste, and 1.3 million tonnes of nutrients returned to soil. It could also reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 27 million tonnes. Nestlé UK & Ireland aims to send zero waste to landfill from all of its factories by the end of 2015. The factory waste is used as fuel to power parts of the factories themselves.
